what nursing shoes r best?

for those who are on their feet over 10hrs/qd, which nursing shoes do you find work the best, most comfy, and allow the "dogs" to remain pain free aft the shift?

I have heard some really good things about Z Coils. Although they are a bit pricey ($200) they purportedly keep your feet comfy, while alleviating hip, knee and back pain. Now, if they work as well as they say they do, I would gladly spend the money (once my job is secure).

When we were on vacation recently, we past one of their flagship stores as we were driving through Durango, CO. I wanted to go in and try on a pair sooo badly, but we did not get out of Mesa Verde in time (lots to see there and that is another post :)).

The only problems I have heard about Z Coils is that you have to be careful with the coil around IV and O2 tubing as it can get stuck in the coil.

A lot of people talk about Crocs, but I do not know, they seem a little flimsy to me and would not offer the type of support I need.

Hope this helps you.

If you don't have to wear white check out Minnetonka online. I recently bought a pair of their clogs and haven't had a bit of heel pain since. And they were less expensive then the Dansko's that some people love, but I couldn't wear. Your best bet is to try them on.

I work weekend doubles; therefore, I am on my feet approximately 16 hours per shift. As far as comfortable tennis shoes, I love Adidas jogging shoes and Avia athletic shoes. I also love to wear the imitation Crocs (foamy clogs with the holes) that I purchased at Target for $9.99 per pair.

i have tried just about every shoe but the zcoils. i have heard good things about them but they look too unstable for me!

i have a pair of danskos and they have been the best pair of shoes i have ever bought, on my feet 12 hours and no heel, leg, knee or back pain at all. they take some getting used to but well worth their price. if you have a track and trail store in your area let them know you are a nurse and they should give you a discount.

I have a couple of (what I think are) bone spurs on the heel and ball of my foot. Those little boogers wear a hole straight through padding faster than a speeding bullet and they make wearing the more rigid support shoes like Dansko's impossible. The best thing I found for me were Klogs - lots and lots of "cush", plus the insoles could come out when they wore out and I don't have to buy an entire new pair of shoes - just insoles! Not to mention they now offer select styles in NARROW. Seriously, a greenbean has more width than my foot does.

I simply buy the most comfortable athletic shoe - I have New Balance right now. And I look for them on sale.

Some co-workers have recently purchased those imitation "crocs" at WalMart and love them - and they only cost about $10.

Z-coils are just too weird looking for me.

I am a shoe fanatic!! I have 16 pairs of tennis shoes. You name it-Nikes, Reeboks, Addidas, New Balance, etc. Also have Nurse Mates, Danskos and Crocs. I know shoes!! For me the #1 pick hands dowm are my Z-Coil clogs. They are awesome! I work 16 hr shifts and no more tired feet, aching back and sore knees. I know they are not pretty and look unstable, but I was totally surprised at their stability and Lord knows I am not at work for a fashion contest. I should be a spokesperson for their company, because I am totally impressed with my coils everytime I wear them!:clown:

You guys may not believe it, but the best shoes I've worn are from Payless shoes. SafeTStep Oxford Athletics. They are slip and stain resistant, really lightweight, and they are super-comfortable! I have bunion issues, but the wide widths don't hurt me, and they have great arch support. I bought two pair so I can rotate them, because they *might* not hold up as long, but at 19 bucks a pair, its still a bargain.

i am not working 12 hr shifts yet, but for clinicals the old althletic shoes were not cutting it. they hurt my feet, so i looked around and talked to some nurses and i found SAS shoes. they might be a bit expensive but i think its better than buying a bunch of cheaper pairs of shoes looking for ones that won't hurt my feet. so far they are really comfortable.

I had heard that Rockers were great so I bought a pair for $55. I have only worn them twice (6 hour shift each time) and they are falling apart! The sole has separated from the shoe on one of them:(
