What stethoscope should I get?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Long story short: I was in an RN program before (dropped out for personal reasons), and my parents got me a Littmann Lightweight SE II for it, but a a few months ago when I was super tight on money, I sold it because I didn't have an immediate need for it, but I did need to pay my rent.

Now I'm starting an LPN program, so I'm going to need a new steth, and I'm wondering if I should get another Littmann Lightweight or if there is a comparable steth that's cheaper or a better one around the same price point. I'm the one who'll be buying it this time around, so I have less money to work with than when my parents were buying.

Thanks!

Littmann classic SE II or master classic are great steths with better acoustics then the light weight. However any stethoscope will do when your a student. Treat yourself to a fancy one as a graduation present. :p

I can't afford either of those. I absolutely loved my Lightweight (and when I was on clinical it was probably the most common scope I saw nurses on the floors use too :)) but scopes might have changed in the time since I dropped nursing school which is why I asked.

I also disagree that "any stethoscope will do"...we were given super cheap ones as part of our clinical kit, and you could tell they were cheap. I had a horrible time trying to even do something as basic as BP, and once I got my Littmann things were a million times better!

Pretty much what I can afford is around $50, and of course, less would be ideal if I can still get something of quality that is about the same as my old Littmann.

I just bought a MDF stethoscope, which was about $50 from Amazon. I compared it to my old Littmann Lightweight and oh man...it was much louder and clearer than the Lightweight! I'm very happy with my new MDF...plus it comes in so many different colors.

Oh, and it also comes with lifetime free replacement parts! You can't beat that!
