Nursing Schools in the Philippines

World Philippines

Published

So, I am interested in taking up Nursing in the Philippines, however, I do not wish to go through minor subjects again. I am looking for a decent enough school which has an accelerated program, wherein I am able to finish my Nursing Degree in 2 years, maximum. Please give me actual school suggestions, if possible. Also, my friend told me to look for schools which are not ladderized, what exactly does that mean? I already have a degree. My husband is also interested in taking up nursing, but he doens't have a degree yet. He is an American citizen (born to Filipino parents though, so he is eligible for dual citizenship), and I am a Filipino citizen. No LPNs/ADNs please. I want actual Nursing Schools. Please give specific suggestions, ex. DLSU, UST. We would prefer in Metro Manila of course, partucularly near Greenhills area. Thanks!

PS

What do you guys think of Philippine School of Sciences and World Citi Colleges?

Hi,

There sure are a LOT of schools in the Philippines that admits second-coursers. You will surely find yourself graduating with an "accelerated" BSN degree. But I want to warn you that most of these schools are just estabished for profit and not for educating future skilled and knowledgeable nurses. As there is an alarming number of nursing schools in the Philippines, the government (I assumed) is trying to close those that are underperforming in the NLE. And categorically, in my observation, those underperforming nursing schools are "mostly" the recently opened nursing schools, which coincidentally, are the ones accepting second-coursers and with an "accelerated" program.

I am from a nursing school in Morayta, and in one of our clinical duties, my clinical instructor told us that the other group of nursing students having their duty on the same hospital that we were, are actually students of a school that offers just 2-year of "BSN". I don't know how will they be able to qualify for licensure exams, or worst, how will they take care of their patients with just a limited time of practice.

I maybe wrong with this so please do a decent look on your school of choice.

Hi to those licensed nurses!!!Is it still practical to study nursing nowadays? As I am also looking for a good and competitive school here in the philippines.I am a second-courser (graduate of a 5-year premed course) . I dont know if you guys heard about Dr. Carlos Lanting College. I just want to hear an input about it. Please suggest also other schools where I can enroll this year. Thanks

Hi,

in my opinion, you can still study nursing, if that's really in your heart. As long as you love what you do, and you are happy about it, then why not. You may encounter difficulties along the way, like soaring unemployment, immigration issues, and a lot more, but with perseverance, you will secure your life.

With the issue on where school to enroll, you may visit the website of PRC or even CHED, to check the passing rates and level accreditation of schools, respectively.

GodBless!

Thank you iamnomad..

Nope, as long as you do not post email addresses in posts (they will be removed) you can use either pm or email if the member has set it up. Remember not all members will set their account to receive emails. Also they can access pm system and read pm's just not send them until they have 15 posts :)

If you plan to go back to the Philippines to study, try to choose the best school in nursing I would recommend SLU, FEU manila universities, what city u from in the P.I? Starting this June this yr. Ive read that its gonna be 5 yrs program of nursing in the P.I. There are 2 kinds of nursing program 1) AHSE to BSN that means after 2 years of studying you will get your AHse diploma and continue for the BSN degree. 2) Ladderize nursing- they will graduate every yr. if you choose this one as far as I know you can take the midwifery licensure too. I got my AHSE and BSn degree. Expect that the hospital setting is different from USA. I didnt learn a lot of nursing skills there because they dont have enough medical equipments. Why dont you guys start as a PCT in the hospital here in USA and take the program of nursing so you will have experience in the nsg field.

I studied at a small school outside manila in Cavite and was able to finish my degree in 3 years because I was able to transfer units from college in the states. I was born and raised in the states and could not understand or speak the language for nothing when i first arrived in the Phil. But, I was able to adapt and adjust with help from the supportive faculty and most of all my classmates.I did not have any problems after graduation with registering for the nclex-rn in california and passed the first time i sat for the exam.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.

The programs in the Philippines are now going to five year programs soon. Also attending school in the Philippines and one is always going to have to meet the requirements for the foreign-trained RN. This means that one cannot begin the licensing process until they have actually graduated from their program and then the wait will be four months plus for any state at the minimum.

Licensure and immigration are two very different things.

Next issue is the economy. With new grads that trained in the US and are American having problems finding work, it is going to be much more difficult for those that have trained out of the US; and this most definitely goes for CA now as well.

I am confused, I thought the whole nursing program was taught in English, so why did you have a language issue? Are you employed now? Last point no Private messages until 15 posts.
