Nursing Schools with conditional approval

Published

In another post I asked about whether a RN diplma is worth getting over an associates. But I have found out the school my wife wants to go to is under Conditional approval with the Ohio state board of nursing.

Is there anything we should know/be concerned about with a school with conditional approval. From my understanding it is a new program and the reason for conditional status is the board has to wait on it first graduating class.

As always thanks for any input.

conditional approval is better than none at all, but since i do not practice in ohio i think your very best bet is to ask the ohio board of nursing what it means to them. they'll be in the phone book under the section on state government, or you can look up online.

avoid for-profit schools, even if they are "approved" or accredited. the problems are too numerous to list here.

I I know that this is a old post but I was wondering the same thing as the original poster. There is one school that I would like to apply to but is currently under conditional approval form the state (GA) but it has national accreditation . Should I still consider the school?

Hi I know this is a old thread, but did you guys find out about "conditional" approval? I'm interested in a school that has this approval status but is accredited.

Conditional approval generally means that the state board of nursing found some serious issues with the program, like the NCLEX pass rate or curriculum.

Conditional programs usually have BON visits and audits to make sure the program is fixing the problems. If they don't, they lose their accreditation. If they do, they remove the conditional or warning status.

My current nursing program was on warning and the status was removed. There were other schools in my area (Massachusetts) that lost their accreditation. It's a gamble.
