  1. Probably the one of the worst things I seen was when I was an STNA in LTC. Had an agency new grad LPN come in for a call off. She was supposed to remove some staples from a patients leg but could not find the stuff to do it with. She sent me on my break and when I come back her and the other aid on the hall where using a suture removal kit to dig out the staples in this patients leg. It was an absolute mess and the only reason the guy wasnt screaming was he was out in la la land on pain meds. That was not a pleasent phone call to the DON, which I had to make becasue the nurse refused to.
  2. I heard it was tought, which is why was considering columbus state. Between work and my kid not sure if I could put the time in needed for study. My only other concern is being ableto afford school, my wife is already an lpn and I think that puts me out of reach for just about any finacial aid. I'm sure i'll figure it out been putting it off for a long time and just want to get it done and be a nurse.
  3. You will most likely have to work in LTC(nursing homes) at least initially untill you get experience. I belive Macintosh healthcare services are hiring at several of their locations in central ohio. Best bet to find a job at a nursing home is to call them or go to their websites and look. A lot of them do not post to job boards. I know OSU hospital might have some positions open in the doctors offices but with being a new grad you might have issues. Maybe a Diaylisis company might have a position. If your really desprate for work try the red cross, although you wont be doing much nurse related work. Mainly blood draws etc. And remember If a plce says they want 1 or 2 years experience apply anyways. They might not be able to get the experience they want and have to go with someone with less. I have be hired several times that way.
  4. I have been considering becoming an LPN for some time, either going to columbus states program or Columbus north adult. Just curious as to what Nurses think the job outlook for LPN's is in central ohio as opposed to news storeis etc. I know that there are not many hospital jobs in the columbus area and would mainly be working in LTC or possibly prison system but would value some input.
  5. I have seen some positions posted for lpns in corrections/ prisons. Can anyone give any insight to what this enviroment is like for a nurse and genral duties. thanks
  6. Anyone have any suggestions for a job to work before or while in nursing school to improve your chances after graduation of getting a job as a nurse? For examply i have been a nurse aid(been a while) a phlebotomist with the red cross and am currently working as a pharmacy tech. Hoping my exp will help me look a little better once i finish LPN school and start looking for a job.
  7. I am considering the lpn program there. Was wondering if anyone has any information on the program there or has worked with those who have graduated from there. thanks
  8. In another post I asked about whether a RN diplma is worth getting over an associates. But I have found out the school my wife wants to go to is under Conditional approval with the Ohio state board of nursing. Is there anything we should know/be concerned about with a school with conditional approval. From my understanding it is a new program and the reason for conditional status is the board has to wait on it first graduating class. As always thanks for any input.
  9. My wife is wanting to obtain her RN and I was wondering which is better? Associates or Diploma RN? She is a LPN with several years exp in ltc if that matters. My apolgies if this is posted in the wrong area.
