Nursing School Uniforms

Published

I start the nursing program at a community college in January and our school only designated that our uniforms be white! I cannot find any professional white uniforms except for a few styles. Does anyone know of anyplace I can buy white nursing uniforms online? I am not skinny and white is not exactly flattering when you have padding. :chuckle

Any advice on websites or flattering uniforms would be appreciated. I want to look professional.

i wouldn't wear white cotton undies 'cause it's real obvious where the panties end and your legs begin. you're actually better off wearing flesh colored (or as close as you can get... ecru? biege?) underwear.

you know, i had this conversation with a black woman (i am white). she told me i should be wearing black underwear with white pants. i reminded her that i was white :chuckle (it is rather obvious, i am as pale as they come). then i pointed out that i didn't really think it mattered, as everyone knows i wear underwear anyway!!

btw, as for the nursing school garb, my sympathies go out to some of you. be thankful if you get to wear white. my students (as well as i when i was a student) have to wear this light blue and white pinstripe (very tiny stripes) shirt, with this awful white collar. it's a cross between the partridge family blouses and the 'pirate' shirt jerry seinfeld wore when he was on the tonight show ("but i don't wanna be a pirate"!!!). it's truly hideous.

i would be one of those students with the awful light blue uniform. easily identifiable as a student nurse uniform. it is pretty much as described as above, only our colars match the rest of our uniform. very expensive. one top is $56 at life uniform....:uhoh3:

After hearing about everyone that has to wear all white, I'll never complain about looking like a smurf in all bright blue again.

Really, what do these people expect? You are student nurses, and I know that within the first hour of working my LNA shift, I have had something splashed on me, from whatever (usually from trying to rinse a commode or urinal, getting splashed from the excessive water pressure!). Sure, white looks nice when it's first put on and pressed, but wouldn't it be better to have the students look uniform and CLEAN in a color, rather than in stained whites at the end of the day???

I don't know......my age must be showing! ;)

Here my take on the white...it tells a story to you and your clinical instructor. It teaches you to be aware of what can happen. I think it makes you a little more cautious. I know this probably isn't the reason, but it will keep me on my toes! I don't want my CI to see me messy every rotation!

Tip for white uniforms -

NEVER wear colored or white underwear or bras under white uniforms - wear nude or skin toned undergarments.

White undies shine like a bright light through whites, and colors like pink, red or blue are very visible also.

Nude or beige tones will not show up.

We also have to wear white uniforms for clinical. But we didn't get to pick whatever style we wanted, at orientation they told us exactly what to where and exactly where to buy it (Jascouniforms.com) they told us what style number we needed for the tops, and coats. We even had to have it embroidered. Unfortunately, they even told us what kinds of undergarments to wear, White! They say we can be sent home if we don't comply with the uniform. So if you haven't been to orientation, wait on the uniforms, they may explain exactly what they want you to wear. Or call the Nursing office and ask what's not allowed. Jasco has a great selection of white uniform stuff. Good Luck!

i'm happy to read that they are others out there who have to wear those ugly white uniforms!

and we're not allowed to wear scrubs either, it has be a student uniform top.

here's what most of us wear:

and of course we have the patch of our school on the left sleeve.

we also have to wear all white shoes and crew socks, no ankle socks allowed. and your hais has to be either so short that it's off your collar of it has be up and contained (that means the dreaded bun, no pony tails allowed)! and it has to be more or less plastered to your head, no flyaways allowed either! :uhoh21:

the boys must look very cute in those dresses :chuckle

There was one school - I know which one it is but I'm going to save them the face - here in Texas that wore purple gingham puff sleeve dresses with a white tunic style apron over it as their school uniform as recently as the mid-90's. Very SKEERY!

Another wore long tunics - they hit about the upper 1/3 of the thigh, with pants, the tunic's front panel was divided into thirds and two wide blue stripes went up the 2 front seams. The school patch wabout 6' across and was planted square in the middle of the chest!!!

Thankfully - the school I went to allowed us our choice of white scrubs, uniforms, dresses - what ever we wanted, as long as it was white, had the school patch on the left sleeve and our hair off the collar.

Funny - but since I graduated in 93, unless it was required by one job or an agency I have NEVER worn whites again!!!!!

In a word- hideous.

From one Texas gal to another you have GOT to tell me who that was :)

The school i'm applying to wears all white and then there are at least 3-4 different "uniforms" for different floors/clinicals. Sheesh!

Lets just say it was a school near the Temple/Belton area that is named after a woman...and the last name is the same name as a major University in Waco!!

Last time I checked they werent wearing the gingham uniform anymore - but I will say it was the most hideous uniform I had EVER seen!
