Nursing school right away or wait?

Published

Hi,

I recently graduated (May 2014) with a Bachelor's degree in Public Health. My main goal has always been to become a RN, therefore I applied to nursing school for the accelerated nursing program and thank god I got accepted. I can start either in the Fall or Spring; the next program starts Sep 1st. Now, based on your own experiences, do you think it is advisable to start nursing school right away? Or has it been beneficial to take a break and work for a little bit then start nursing school?

Please any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated!

Nursing school is very demanding, especially accelerated programs. If you feel that you would benefit from time off to give yourself a rest then you can always wait until Spring. Another thing is, with your program starting Sept 1st, would you have enough time to get all of your pre-clinical requirements done and such? (Physical, PPD, immunizations, etc). Just another thing to think about.

If you feel that you are ready to dive in to a demanding program and feel that you have adequate time to get all of the pre-requirements done then I would say just go for it. The sooner you start, the sooner you reach your goal.

Good Luck.
