Hi everyone I am currently enrolled in my local community college to persue nursing. I wanted to get a head start and possibly start reading books or learning terminology. What do current nursing students or nurses reccomend? Thank you

Check out khan academy. It has videos on line for a lot of courses. I found it the last term of my AA, wish I knew about it sooner. It helped me learn fetal circulation. I would have been nice to have for Fund of Biology. LOL!
My school has a wait list and I plan on studying the Khan videos until school starts. You can also check out quizlet and find alot of stuff at that site.
Awesome, thank you. I'm very nervous because I graduated in 2009 with my diploma and I've only taken one semester at my community college since then. I feel like I forgot a lot of the basics of school and on top of that I have a child now. I know it won't be easy but it will definitely be well worth it for myself and my daughter. Just trying to boost my confidence congratulations to you on finishing your AA.

If you are still finishing up pre-req's, I would suggest taking a medical terminology course. Probably the best course I took that wasn't necessary to get into the nursing program at my school.

Have you finished all your pre-req's such as Anatomy, Physiology(take this class separate if possible! You'll learn so much more, I promise!), Micro, Chem, Bio, etc? Besides taken the medical terminology as mentioned above & if you haven't taken all these other classes yet, I highly recommend you study your butt off in all these classes because my 1st semester took almost every single one of these classes & then some & tied them all together into 1 class & thankfully I was able to retain a lot of that information, so it made it a lot easier in my opinion.

I'd start going over medical terminology in a class if possible.

If you have already competed your pre reqs and are just waiting to get into nursing school, I would say about the only way to prepare ahead of time is to know dimensional analysis, memorize common lab values, and brush up on your A & P. Honestly, reading ahead wouldn't have helped me at all as the instructors jumped all over the book. So those tips I gave you are things I feel like would have better prepared me for my first semester.

IMO Students struggle the most with adjusting to nclex style questions when first entering their program. I would get an nclex book and start getting familiar with how to answer those questions vs remembering lab values. Anything you can memorize will build on it's own.
