O.K. I am so upset and disgusted with nursing school!! I feel like quiting!! :angryfire

I am currently in OB. I passed the last part of med&surg which took the life out of me!! :uhoh3: and all the instructors told us that if pass the last part of med&surg everything else will be smoothing sailing. But that is just the problem I took my test today and got one of the lowest scores in the low 60's and I thought I knew everything the class average was 83%. I spoke with my instuctor today about it and she said that a grade does not mean anything and further more I was more capeable then that, plus she even told me I know my stuff!! which made me feel better but still I don't understand what the problem is I thought this class would be easier. Not only to make matter worst I have a quiz next week Tues. and have to work Wed, Fri and a dbl on Sat. I just started this job and feel like quiting already but am afraid because it will the the 2nd one in 4 months and will look bad on my resume! I don't know what else to do!! I am lost for words!! and am just scared and nervouse. Does anyone have any good advice or I am just an over anxious nut!!! :uhoh3:

I don't know if this will help. But I am in OB at this time to. I just got through with Med-Surg myself which I think that it by itself was hell. I passed barely but we lost 6 people. I think it could be the new job that you have maybe b/c of stress. Our instructers told us that OB can be just as difficult for some people as others. You really never know why we get some of the grades we do. Just pick yourself up and move on don't worry about it you will do better on the next one. I have my first OB test Thursday so I will let you know how I do. Good Luck and Study alittle more for the next one.

- First, if you need to quit your job - then quit it. It's time to prioritize

your goals. Do you want $$ or do you want grades so that you can

pass? Can you do both?

- You mentioned that you were afraid that quitting a 2nd job in

4 months would look bad on your resume'.

The simple solution, you do not put the job on your resume.

But if you don't. Won't they do some kind of check to see what, were, and how long you have been employed! I do hear that alot of nurses change jobs until they find one that suits them! Do you know if that is true? Thanks Johnny!

the worse class you will encounter in school is the one you are in at the present...sometimes one foot in front of the other is the only solution

good luck...in ten years you won't even remember the problems you are having now

I took my first Med-Surg test this week! My gosh, this stuff is unreal! I did good on this first one. My problem is my Nursing Principles class. The Med-Surg instructor tells us one thing relating to a body system and the NP instructor tells us another! She says, this is the way she teaches NP!! Example: Med-Surg instr. says less than 42cc of urine per hour is bad, NP instr. says less than 30cc/hr. I asked her which one we should know and she said know 30 for my class and 42 for your Med-Surg class, OK fine I can do that, but what about on Boards???????? This stuff makes me crazzzzyyy:uhoh3: Any suggestions?

As for 3momma, hang in there. Let this test go, and move on... You have a lot more to think about, it's in the past now. I know, easier said than done:chuckle

Good Luck:)

best thing I can tell you is go with what the book says. anything under 90ml is cause for concern.

All nursing school is hell. You'll get thru. You're just learning. Alot is being thrown at you. Even as a seasoned RN, you'll come across situations with differences of opinion. Just remember, nursing school is just a small piece of your life...although it may not feel like it right now. Continue to learn...we all do.

3kidsmomma I just thought I would write you back and tell you how I did on my first OB exam I got an 88% which was very good for me. I thought I would let you know what I did. I bought me a Nclex book I have sanders and did questions out of there and it also has very good material to read which is easy to understand and it gives you just key information/ I hope this helps I really think it helped my grade. Michele

Quit your job, school is more important at this point in time. Also run and buy an NCLEX practice book & practice, practice, practice OB questions. Also if there is an OB Made Easy Book, lst look at the concept in your textbook, then read it in the Made Easy Book. This method really works. Good luck!!

Heya!

First off, I have no idea what "OB" is since I am in Sweden. However... We have some pretty insane exams here too. I got a pretty good advice from a teacher when I started this education and it was like this: Passing a test the first time does not neccisarily make you a better nurse. Sometimes it is those that do the exam several times that end up knowing the stuff better.

Also I feel that the exams I made over a year ago do not reflect very well what I know right now. I have already forgotten lots and I have got an deeper understanding of some parts. It comes and it goes. I dont worry about the exams. It usually work out pretty well in the end anyway. :)

But if you don't. Won't they do some kind of check to see what, were, and how long you have been employed! I do hear that alot of nurses change jobs until they find one that suits them! Do you know if that is true? Thanks Johnny!

You don't necessarily have to put the job on your resume, but it may be required to put it on your application. Usually they ask why you left the job in the application, and I bet if you told them the truth, it would be sufficient. "I felt the need to focus in on my studies."

That is totally okay. Do what's best for you. I did a job for a semester and a half and didn't particularly like it and quit, but if they ask me why I quit I will surely state that it was due to school.

If you can afford to quit, I would totally do it.
