Nursing school is too easy!

I know I shouldn't be upset about this, but I really think our school is trying hard to NOT have anyone fail out. This last term was really bad. Basically we had a review before the tests...and the review consisted of paraphrasing the actual test itself. The instructors would not go over every question, so there were still a few surprises. But all we had to do was listen well on the review and it was easy to get an A. We took some very critical classes too, like Pharm II, OB/Peds and health assessment. The results of making things so easy for us was 1. the lazy people still did bad, because they are lazy. 2. For those of us who care, we really did not have to study at all and all got A's. And we had the same "easy" instructor for pharm I, and now many of us feel we don't know jack crap about meds.

In many ways I feel I'm being cheated out of an education because they are catering to the lazy stupid people in class. But on the other hand part of me says I should just put the blinders on, get through school with an easy 4.0GPA and don't worry about it.

I wrote a post about three years ago about how "I get it." Nursing school was not difficult for me either. The school from which I graduated has enjoyed a 100% pass rate for the last several years. I sat for NCLEX and passed with 75 questions in 51 minutes. I also studied for about two weeks prior to taking the exam. Everyone is at a different place on the learning curve. The fact that you do not find nursing school a challenge does not make you a jerk. I was debating what to do after earning my BSN. I was not sure if I wanted to be an NP or begin a PhD program. I decided pursing a PhD would better suit my needs and goals. I am completing my second year and quite honestly, I do not find the program a challenge either. Many of those in my cohort receive thier papers back with comments requesting they re-write sections. I generally receive minor comments (often APA related) with grades of mostly A's with a few B+'s. Again, people told me, "wait until you get to STATS 2 and Quantitative 1". The courses were easy. I understand the content. Now I am being told, "Wait until comps and the thesis part." So, I guess we will see. In fact, I am considering not going back after this semester.

So long as you passed NCLEX and had enough basic knowledge to succeed on the floor, I don't see the issue.

As far as nursing school being 'easy'? Meh. For some, it is. Personally, I thought NCLEX was cake. Apparently, most on AN would disagree with me.

I don't know if I thought nursing was easy, though. The info was easy to understand but I had a dense pharm instructor who taught pharm the backwards way. So, 'easy'? No. Nursing school was 'stressful'...for no good reason at all.

Like, I'm doing an ADN bridge at Galen in a few days. It's going to be mind-numbingly worse, I can already tell.

Today, we had orientation. We were supposed to be there at 0830. Didn't get started until 0900. From 0900(ish) to 1100(ish), we moved classrooms 3 times and met with several speakers. Seriously, I came over from a night shift...for this. I wasn't the only one, either. Then, we got to break at 1130 and complete(begin??) whatever we needed to accomplish. Our class goes out to get 'started' and there's already like 200 damned students standing in the hall in 2 lines. It's loud. It's a commotion. Everyone was standing around looking crazy and confused.

This freakin' school waited 5 days before class, the day of orientation, to tell us that we have to schedule appts with the advisor to rec'v a schedule. The advisor, on a different floor, arrived at 1200(ish). There was a row of 10 chairs outside of his office.

Several people available but he's the only one seeing students. OF course. Our first speaker was all, 'Yeah, it takes like 10 minutes for your advisor to get you started.'

LIES!!! LOL

It took 30-45 minutes per student. There were 10 students ahead of me until the students who marched upstairs in a huff, sent away because they were online and had to do some crap with the it guy first, came down and pushed me back. It was 1320p.

I just got up and left. If orientation is this inefficiently run, what the heck's the program like?

It sounds as if your school may be getting some backlash for poor past performances. Do you have any idea how their last NCLEX results were?

My past A&P professor said ours was around 30% and advised us to go to the school about an hour out if we wanted to actually pass our NCLEX. :scrying:

Nursing school is easy? You've got to be kidding me. My nursing program is suicidal.

I don't know why, but this post made me laugh out loud. I suddenly pictured a bunch of cartoon students dramatically draped across their desks.

You know this thread is from 2010, right? whistling.png

Ack! Sucked in by an old thread! Well, I hope he did ok.

Do you mind sharing what school you attend? Tia :)

I actually feel the same way about my school so far. But I'm in my first semester. I just find it sooo basic right now and that they're not trying to weed anyone out at all. But I don't know, I'm only 6 weeks in... so I guess I can't really judge that much yet. But I have a full schedule and I work and still have an active social life and I feel like I still have ample time to spare... and I've had 3 tests so far and gotten 98, 99 and 99% on them... the average for all of the nursing students right now is 89% and the lowest average is 60%... I dunno, I guess I'll see how it progresses... maybe it'll get harder. I've just heard so many times that your first semester is the worst.

The poster you quoted hasn't logged in since 2011, so I doubt you will receive a response.

What is "pretty high" NCLEX pass rate? I'm pretty uneasy reading that their last term was 65%. That is horrible. I've actually never heard of a school that has ever gotten that low of a passing rate. If it is easy for you, great, study up on NCLEX and you should be good to go.

My friend graduated from a program, and the NCLEX pass rate was only 50%!!

What school are you attending thats super easy like that?
