I am applying to a nursing program soon and am hoping to be accepted to start in the spring of 2016. In 2009 I pled no contest to a dui. I have already requested an official copy of my court mins and other appropriate papers. I paid all fines, completed all requirements, and this is the only thing on my record. What else will I have to do when I apply for clinicals? I've heard about the letter you have to write, but what is it supposed to say? If/when I get accepted for clinicals will I have to go through this all over again to sit for boards? Any and all information/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get it expunged. Otherwise it may impede your ability to be accepted at clinical sites. It will also help you with jobs in the future. Use the maximum legal remedies your state allows. It looks responsible to the board and it will increase your ability to attain a license without restrictions. Also, keep any legal paperwork like copies of dismissals, etc.
I don't know what you mean about a letter. The letter may be to the BON. Anything specific to your school should be addressed to your school. Go to your BON site and read what they want and don't leave anything out for your best shot.

Some state BONs care more about DUIs then others. Also keep in mind that full unrestricted licensure in one state does not mean that you will get the same in another state.
