Nursing school is awful in so many ways....

EDIT: FYI- Not asking for advice..I'm just venting. Common sense replies are a waste of your time and mine. Feel free to skip to another thread if this one gets you bent out of shape.

Ok, if you are looking for positivity, close this thread quick!

Reasons why *I* feel nursing school can SOMETIMES be a drag:

1) Weight gain/loss that is unwelcome

2) Breaking out like you're going through puberty again

3) Lack of sleep (6 hours sounds good)

4) 200 hours of studying and only 2 days to complete it ;)

5) You are inclined to feel clueless and severely inexperienced

6) Crappy Administration and/or Nursing Staff

7) Cheaters

8) Classroom Politics & B.S. "Cliques"

9) Cattiness

10) Backstabbing

11) Gossiping

12) Watching those who commit #7-11 succeed equally as well as you do. WHAT A KICKER!

Has anyone been in a nursing program that they hated so much they would given anything to transfer

on to another one? Just a random question.

I'm in my mid-20s and I cannot help but to notice how terrible the nursing school environment is. I have been in college before and it just doesn't compare to nursing school. I have never dealt with so many backstabbing, gossiping, cheating, ungrateful, catty people in my LIFE. And much to your surprise, they are NOT all women! I'm sick of my college. We pay over $23k per year and the administration treats us like dirt. There is NO loyalty when it comes to us and we are blatantly lied to almost on a daily basis...and even though I get along with my class as a whole, I would say it's more that I "tolerate" them because I'm slightly easygoing. I have never met so many two-faced, shameless, jealous, shady people in my LIFE before. It creeped up out of NO WHERE!

I'm sick of my nursing program. Sick of the people who are jealous of those who make good grades..and SICK of those same people who feel they have a right to copy off their papers or pressure them into "sharing". I go to college with , generally, a bunch of flippin' idiots. That felt better. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just shaking my head thinking that I have to go here for another 1.5 years potentially. I'm doing everything I can to transfer, but I'm not sure how easy that will be. I'm finished with my LPN portion of my program this summer.

I just had to get this off my chest. You do not have to agree with me lol. I have already started to tell my classmates some of this. If they are gonna be hateful, they will be hateful knowing the truth from me! I don't have a problem either. Done a lot of that "blunt" talk this week. lol

I'm not bitter nor traumatized. I noticed when someone calls it like is it, the terms "bitter" is used. I'm honest. Look around the boards. Its funny because the same ones putting my posts and caffeines post's down, mentioned the same things(hating their job, giving other kudos for quitting etc) in theirs or others. Its like a contradiction. One moment people are honest with how bad nursing is and then the next, its all sugar coated and others are put down for speaking the truth. Somethings not right with that. I mean what is it? But I guess this moment and in this thread many claim to love nursing....

Caffeine, good luck with owning your business and keep striving for the best. I am. I'm actually thinking of owning a business one day with my sister as well. I deserve a good life and you do too. I know you say you are using nursing as a back up and I do think if thats what best for you go for it. But from telling the type of person you are, I doubt you will stay long. You're the type that runs a place, demands respect and wants positive healthy people around you. Good luck again!

You and caffine are not telling it like it is!! You do not know "how it is"!!You don't speak for everyone! Every single hospital, school, nursing program, and person is different! Just because you say or think that nursing school is bad doesn't make it law. Speak for yourself and not everyone else. And I don't know who you claim is talking out of both sides of their mouth, but why would a person say they hate nursing when they actually love it? Why would anyone say they love nursing when they hate it? Ive never seen anyone contradict themselves on here andI have been on here for a while. Please go find another website and quit trying to bring everyone else down. If you wanna trash nursing this isn't the place to do it. You think you are being a hero by "spreading the truth"....wellyou are just making others feel bad. Whether you mean to or not, thats what you are doing

It smells to me like people can't take the opinion of others! I'm not going to an "I hate nursing" board. If you don't like my thread, don't read it! ;) It would make your life a LOT easier. Sorry, but the snide and catty comments don't bother me at all. It's actually pretty sad and just reinforces everything summersent has been posting. Let's stop hiding under a rock and pretending to be "shocked" by this thread. I have seen *worse* from nurses who have been in the field for DECADES and are not looking to leave....and you know what? That's their opinion! Bless them.

But WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE...not everything is roses and chocolate! If you had a great experience...GOOD FOR YOU. That's not the way the real world works for everyone. If you don't want to hear about it...don't read.

1) You don't have to enter an exclamation mark after everything. Calm down, "assess", and take some of the "freaking out" out of the equation lol.

2) YES- we ARE telling it like it is. Who in the world said we made it "law"? And WHO said we suggested it is like this for everyone?

3) You don't know how it is. You're a pre-nursing student. I'm sorry to burst your bubble. I clearly stated that if you are looking for positivity NOT to read this thread. You chose to, and you can now deal with however it makes YOU feel. You're allowed to feel the way you do, it's not my job to lie to you, sugar coat things, and hold your hand through nursing school. No one is doing that for me..and I don't expect it.

4) Everyone has an opinion and one should learn how to accept it. I tolerate the opinions on here...even though a handful of people are using this thread to attack me and vent as well. However, that's THEIR issue, not mine.

5) Good Luck in nursing school (should you ever be accepted). You're going to absolutely HATE it if my post is disturbing you *this* much. Seriously..I wish you ALL the luck in the world and I hope your experience is EXACTLY the opposite of mine.

Forgive me for wanting to learn & taking my education seriously. I think one would be a fool if the things I listed didn't cause them some concern.

Lastly, no one is obligated to reply to me. I have "said" my part :).

Wake up and smell the coffee yourself. LIFE isn't all roses and chocolate, so why should any profession be different? Everybody seems to go through the "grass is always greener" mindset, no matter what career they choose. They all have pitfalls.

Yeah, nursing school sucks. Yeah it's hard and time consuming and feels like a dysfunctional circus at times. Yes, I have personally met and talked with older nurses who have become disgruntled with the profession and the toll it has taken on them personally. I've also jumped through every hoop my instructors have held up for me, aced that test that other students claimed was "impossible" and "poorly written". I've navigated through the dreaded care plans, and I've managed to stay on the good side of the meanest nursing/clinical instructors. I'm not trying to give myself the big old pat on the back or seeking praise from others. But I know of a few students within my own program who have had a different view of things than me and are struggling quite a bit. I can't say why that is. Perception is reality. If nursing school has left you disgruntled, I can't imagine you'll be that much happier as a working RN. So go find a profession that gives you good vibes and appears to be the better fit. But don't turn around and say that all those others who choose to stay in are the ones who are blind, in denial or just plain too scared to stick up for ourselves and leave. Our perception of the profession is just fine, we don't need anyone to open our eyes for us

Good luck in whatever you choose! Venting posts are always a lot fun, just don't get all caught up and chapped when everyone doesn't agree with you

By the way, I'm really getting a kick out of you and summersent giving "kudos" to each other's post, usually shortly after they are written. You two are not one in the same are you? ;)

Thanks everybody who posted here with their own perspective. That's all I was trying to do, for people reading this who are competely unfamiliar with the profession. (note the word is not in quotes, it is a profession) )Nursing isn't a sunday stroll, but it isn't a kamikaze mission either. Best to all of you.

LOL. I have tested SEVERAL times in the 96th-99th percentile range NATIONALLY on SEVERAL different exams, throughout my life. Let me not pat myself on the back either, but I am unimpressed. I had no idea this was supposed to be a ******* contest. Forgive me! I guess I didn't get the memo. :smokin: I was actually more interested in the quality of my education. I'm not worried if that bothers you.

If you're "just fine" and don't need anyone to open your eyes, you definitely would NOT be wasting so much of your energy on a small thread. You're not fooling me lol.

This thread was for my vent alone. I'm not here to change anyones mind about nursing. If you're "strong-minded", summersent's replies will not change your mind either. It beats my why ANY secure/confident person would actually become so defensive over the opinion of others....and the cattiness....whew! :rawr:

Btw, if you haven't noticed, I'm not the only one posting kudos for summersent. Additionally, this site does not allow you to sign up under two accounts. I know this for a fact as I did that last year on accident...when I deleted the email I had linked to my first account. They IMMEDIATELY notified me and rectified the situation.

Just to think....other people out there feel the SAME way as summersent. What a concept. ;)

You probably would have gotten your opinion across a LOT better if you would have left the cattiness out. Then I would actually be able to respect what you had to "say". Once I got further into your post, I couldn't help but to take it less seriously. There are always going to be random people on here that completely throw a thread off track because they need attention. That's only my opinion. Just keep in mind that you're allowed to start your own threads...and I promise I will not come on them freaking out like a toddler because you have an opinion. I understand that we all have unique personalities and opinions. That's probably why I'm not upset.

I'm actually a bit intrigued with how involved you and summersent are with this negativity towards nursing. No worries, my feelings haven't been hurt. Good for you on your 95-99% testing; it's actually quite funny that you took my post as a ****** match and missed my point entirely. That's ok though. Like I said, perception is reality.

No need to get frustrated, it's ok, everyone's entitled to their opinion, just like you said. Good luck again in your future endevors.

Thanks! You're finally getting it! Exactly my sentiments.:D

I'm not upset, caffeine. I honestly don't care that you aren't able to cope. Carry on with your calm, "not upset" posts.

1) You don't have to enter an exclamation mark after everything. Calm down, "assess", and take some of the "freaking out" out of the equation lol.

Okay, first of all, I can put as many exclamation points as I please and I would thank you kindly to not tell me what to do. Thanks.

I may not know how it is, but you know what? NEITHER DO YOU:) You and summerstench or whatever her name is think that since you hate nursing school that that's how its going to be for everyone else. Did I ask you to suger coat or hold my hand through nursing school? No. You are the one who is ready to bail, not me. The problem with you and her "opinions" is that you are not stating or presenting them like opinions. The fact that you think you are "telling it like it is" proves that you think that you know everything. I accept others opinions just fine, but not once have you all expressed or stated anything you said as just opinions. You 2 seem to think you have every hospital and nursing program in the world figured out.

Trust me, your post has had about as much effect on my feelings as the weather outside. As I said before, I have chosen my program carefully and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise
