Published

i want to start this thread to know if there is school in southern california or california that accepts 2 subjects or subjects that fulfills requirements for california bon.

for those who are also looking for school lets help each other:0

i also wants to know if theres really a nursing school that accepts ms or ob or subjects that is required by bon to retake due to concurrency issue?

as ive been looking around, calling schools they only accepts 2 years or three and thats to take the entire nursing curriculum...

How do you do clinicals having a patient load when there are 20-30 students to each patient. Do you not just learn clinical skills and mark them off as you go.....there is not any taking a patient load and knowing how to relate to each patient as required attending there skills and needs in priority as there is no clinical time for this?

So just doing skills whenever you get a chance against several other students is not concurrent and done over the entire degree and clinical placement where you put nursing theory just learn't into practise is not happening due to the overloading of nursing students into the hospitals - as advised by an RN from the Phillipines practising in Australia.

Is it discrimination asking for concurrency of clinical practise along with the theory for this to happen? as per the Cal Bon education requirements for their own students.

Yes, I've tried and so have several of my batchmates, all (me too) unable to enroll or simply rejected. To be very honest, I don't think there's been even one successful PH person that have been truly enrolled today or been accepted. There was one possible person but he never came back to say so or sounded unsure.

please pm me, i tried to send message but your inbox is full..hehe

exuse me but you have a wrong judgement, i did one on one patient clinicals when i was a student. maybe in usa you have 20-30 student to each patient, you dont even need to comply cases or handle patients unlike ph grads needed to complete cases.

I do not know about the USA but in Australia from 2 nd year on and in 3rd year, you must take a patient load with your mentor supervising of at least 4 patients by half way through placement, to each student with mentor in the same semester you have done your theory for that specialty. 1st year is one on one. As no RN in Australia unless working in ICU have one patient to care.

Also no çases or skills to be marked off. Just experience, prioritising and caring for patients in that area and considered competent at the end of the placement, meeting all the competencies of a first year RN.

I believe the US is the same idea.

you are from australia why you even care. it might be so easy to study in australia than ph. i dont know how you studied in australia it must be different from usa.

i dont need to explain any further with you. im not here to debate nor argue with you.you are deemed with your own perception

We have had Filipino nurses post that they have been part of placements where there is too many students to too few patients on the ratio that Ceridwyn posted.

CA and a couple of the other states expect clinical to follow theory and it isn't just the Philippine nurses that are being targeted on this. Also know that CA will deny USC who have done online courses like Excelsior and who have nursing experience. So as well as being discriminate with overseas trained nurses they are also being discriminate with US nurses

One has to remember the standard to enter nursing is successful passing of the NCLEX exam. If a school has a lower rate ( around 85%) the school is investigated and could be closed down. Multiple times taking the NCLEX is seen as a failure. Recent stats that most Pinoy graduates fail the NCLEX at an alarming rate. Since the schools are not licensed in the states the applications are scoured to checked for US standards, concurrency is one of the standards US schools use, if a student fails the a course they have to repeat the clinical and the course.

Lol. I know some students here who couldnt handle one real patient on their duties. When i was student in the philippines i handled 2-3 patients just by myself.

Any school that accepts defient units?

It needs to be understood that it isn't just Filipino nurses being affected. There are several US states that have this criteria as well and it affects nursing programs that have concurrency issues.....Excelsior College New York grads recently found this an issue.

"only those states that have explicit education requirements of concurrent theory and practicum will philippine nurses have licensure issues.

excelsior college new york nursing graduates have had same issue recently. see
state board licensure requirements here]

These are states having concerns over concurrent theory and practicum, so I would look at other 37 states to obtain license:

Alabama

Arizona

California

Georgia

Illinois

Kansas

Louisiana

Maryland

north
Dakota

Oklahoma

Vermont

Virginia

Washington
"

California has increased/enforcing some new requirements for nursing licensure and it has become difficult for some new grads/nurses to obtain licensure in the state of California.....as well as the 12 other states that have concurrent clinical requirements. This I believe is in response to some of the "newer" nursing schools that are online and has affected US educated nurses as well.

It is not discrimination when the law is evenly applied.
