nursing scholarships

Published

I am currently enrolled in my prenups for the nursing program starting winter of '09.

I know that our country is in the midst of a critical nursing shortage, and I am just wondering if there are any government funds out there to help pay for school to get nurses educated, trained and into the workforce.

I would think they would be doing everything in their power to get people in there and fill the spots.

I have been a CNA for 12 years, and now that my children are grown I want to finish my dream of being nurse. Problem is, money....

any info you may have would be greatly appreciated.

I did a search at my library and they had some 08 scholarship books, very handy to see what books cover what. I looked through them, picked the one I liked and I am going to buy the 09 book when it comes out. It might be a place for you to start and not have to lay out the cash right away.

Our school has a financial aid package, you fill out some info about and they see which scholarships you meet the requirements for and then they apply for you. Right now there's like 50 or something and people average getting 2 or 3 I guess.

Like, random scholarship... going to University of Kentucky but being a resident in a county in Northern Kentucky (thats ME!!!!) they give you like 2 grand a semester, it's freaking sweet.

Must be nice not in Florida we pay all the way lol:):twocents:

Go to your school and see if they have any offers. Also, check with local hospitals, some are willing to pay for your tuition if you agree to work for them for a number of years, AND maintain a certain GPA.

Scholarships/financial help is out there, you just have to search. And a lot of it is comes on the back-end, in the form of loan repayment.

Check local hospitals, many have $$ for employees pursuing health-care careers.

Many states are offering loan forgiveness programs now in response to the RN shortage. Some states are so desperate (Arizona for example) that if you already hold a bachelors degree and are switching careers to Nursing, they will pay the entirety of your tuition! Sweet deal huh?

This is the Feds website, and they offer all sorts of help. They are definitely offering the best package around. Good luck!
