Does anyone here have any experience with nursing in Saudi Arabia? I'm seriously considering it. They have one year contracts available through Med-Hunters. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no experience with Saudi Arabia.

However, no matter for what amount of money, I would not go to this country until they stop treating females like they are property and stop depriving them of even the most basic rights such as driving a car or going shopping without a male escort.

I would choose not to support this stone age behavior ! I am not intolerant by any means. However there are some actions that a civilized human being can not tolerate.

I agree with you 100%.

However, while you and I are repulsed by this behaviour, it is their culture. There is little to no chance that they will change something that has been going on for centuries.

A friend of mine took a 6 month job in Saudi. Here is what she told me. You are not allowed out of your apt without a burka. You are not allowed to shop for yourself. A man has to do your shopping for anything even clothes. you can wear a uniform at work but you are not allowed off the floor you are working. You are lucky if you get any breaks or lunch, most times you don't. You can not even touch a man, you have to look away, in fact you can't even make eye contact. She said that it is women and children that she worked with.

She made good money and was tax-free, but she hated it and would never, ever, do it again. It was just not worth it and it felt more like slavery. Oh yeah she told me this too if you are a blonde dye your hair dark because the Saudi men will snatch you up becuse to them blonde means "whore"

What about Dubai where its more modern? I hear it is a beautiful place and it would be a better option. I give you credit for wanting to try nursing in Saudi Arabia. Its a whole different lifestyle. I had been to Pakistan myself a few years back and being an American girl I had gotten alot of attention. The culture is much different than you can imagine.

First off. Allmost everythng that women said about her friend working in Saudi is not true. You will be suprised to find a very rich western social scene. Private compounds where people live are left alone by Saudi authorities.

Jeddah is the most relaxed city in the kingdom. There are western only beach resorts where you can wear your bikini and go scuba diving, which is the best in the world. Boats offer chartered dive trips to many spots in the red sea.

You can shop by yourself. you cannot drive. We have a starbucks in the lobby of the King Faisal in Jeddah. Every compound has a gym and a swimming pool.

You can look a man in the eye. No one wears a BURKAS in Saudi. Western women are asked to wear an Abayha, Which is a black robe type thing that you wear over your cloths. That is only in public.

Next read the book "paramedic to the Prince" It was written by an American Paramedic that spent ten years working there. If you want the good and bad about Saudi. Please read this book. Saudi is what you make it. Many western women love it. have spent decades there.

Read the book and decide for yourself

There is an article on AllNurses that I read a few weeks ago, maybe that will help a bit.

I just remember this article sticking out.

Well, for those who said all of that about Saudi, that 100% not true, the girls can do shopping alone, can go out alone, can do everything they like alone no one would ask her anything. Yes driving for girls not allowed, it is because in our culture girls should be treated like queen they are not slaves (as some people think) if you search well you will find more about saudi, if you think Saudi like that...why female nurses who go to Saudi stay more than 10 years, I know some where they work in, for example, Natioanl guard hospitals, or King Faisal Hospital, been there for ages why they dont complain that????? anyway for the interest in working In Saudi

here I give you website for National Guard hospital you can search there for jobs and also some information about working in Saudi.
