Nursing review board

Does anyone know for sure when the board meets to review apps? I could have sworn my recruiter told me they met Nov. 11th and should decide by Nov. 20th but then he called me this week just to check in and said that they meet Nov. 3rd... Which by my calculations would mean they should decide long before December....right? So anyway, does anyone know which is right? I am literally counting the days until I can start expecting a phone call and I want to make sure my paper chain is the right length! haha. That's a joke...but seriously... I keep reading that everyone is waiting to find out in December but it just doesn't seem to add up quite right. :specs:

i worry about the exact same things! haha. a friend of mine just got stationed in newport news and said she is loving it (only nine months of new grad experience and no prior military). she said she'd do it again in a heartbeat and is so much happier than when she was in a civilian hospital. i worry about the same things, but any of those could happen any where and you can't really just up and quit every time someone is mean to you. this is what i keep telling myself, anyway. but yes, every single day all i think about is if this is the right decision and i go over and over the pros and cons...it's exhausting really.

mobro, your friend is at Langley? That's where I am. I work L&D.

yes she is at langley got there over the summer i think. not sure where she is though, might be in an icu? we aren't really close actually but we went to highschool together and i got in touch with her when i found out she was in the airforce, so i don't know all the details of what department she is in but we spoke for a while about pros/cons, etc.

Bingo. Because we won't know if it's for us until we are actually there!

I was told by my recruiter (Air Force) the board meets Nov 6th with release date of November 20th. I didn't meet the paper work "cut off" so I have to wait til the next board which is January 19th with release date of February 6th(I think), the cut off is December 22nd for the paperwork. What is everybody elses recruiter telling them? Im tired of waiting. Is it wrong to get a civilian nursing job for 3 mos then quit to go back into the Air Force?

Nothing is wrong with working a few months if you need the money. The only problem is do you tell them your true intentions or go into it with the idea that it might not happen at all.

Can we clarify? I've seen November 6, 11, and 17th as dates for the USAF nursing board.

Here's what I heard:

The board met last week and it could take 2-6 weeks for a decision to be passed down??

Also, there was a huge number of applicants so a second board meeting is set for December??

I've been promised January since last March and now I'm being told March 2010. A little frustrated about that, a year for an app? really?

Has anyone heard any selection results since/if the board met?

I haven't heard anything about anything. I talked to the recruiting supervisor earlier today. He said that yes their is another board review set for December. I still have to do my interview, but he said we have time to get that done before the December board and that my application will be sent for that board review. As for COT availability, I am not sure because things are different for those that are new grads and those with previous experience. I was told that they only have so many slots that they keep open for each date for new grads and that the rest of the openings go to Dr.'s and experienced health professionals.

per my recruiter:

the board met nov. 3rd and decisions were made by nov.6 but they don't release results until they know where you'll be going to NTP and your permanent duty station. the estimated release date is nov. 20. with veterans day and thanksgiving, however, results might come out late. i don't think the december boards is due to the high volume of applications, i think they meet twice a year and that just happens to be the other one. i could be wrong, but i hadn't heard that that's why there is a dec. board.

as for COT i think everyone is hoping for january and that's what went on my app, but the number of apps was apparently pretty high this year so my recruiter said if it fills up then i'll go in march.

Board actually meets more than twice a year. They meet again sometime between January and end of February. They usually don't meet in December. I was originally told that they were meeting October/November, and am now told they are meeting December. So am hopeful that everything will be taken care of by then and that I will meet the Dec. board. Good luck to everyone.

i hope they make the nov. 20 release date. i'm hoping for january COT!

Hey everyone,

I've had a hard time getting a hold of my AF recruiter this past week (he's been really great up until this point) - and I have so many questions!

I'm trying to meet the Dec. 22nd deadline and between work and school, I feel a tad bit behind. I have already gone to MEPS, but since I failed the depth perception portion of the vision screen I have to have an ophthalmology consultation before I can move forward. My recruiter told me that this shouldn't hold me back from joining, thank god. We had discussed that Tuesday (Nov. 10th) would be a tentative day to go, but he never got back to me and hasn't returned my phone calls. Should I be worried?

I have set a deadline for myself to have my personal statement and last reference due for next week. Afterwards, should an interview with the Chief Nurse be scheduled? Am I missing any other paperwork?

I graduate in May and, based on what my recruiter told me, I should be going to COT in August (after I pass my boards). Does this sound about right?

Any information would be helpful! Thanks!

as far as i've been told the december board date is a separate date from the november board, not just a new date from the november board being pushed back. i talk to my recruiter every week and hopefully he would have told me if that was the case...with a little luck they'll release results next week, assuming everything runs on time...
