New Grads...any information about COT
I have a question about commissioning... I will be graduating this Thursday with my BSN. Will I be commissioning sometime in the summer? I've posted this a few times, but my application was turned in for the January Boards, I got accepted mid-February and I signed my acceptance letter a week after. The last I heard, I will be hearing back about a COT date/duty assignment in late Spring-early summer. I understand that not everything in this process is cut and dry, but I'm confused as to why I haven't heard anything yet. Meanwhile, others have gotten accepted at a later date and already know specific dates/duty stations. Is there anyone else that I can talk to? Up until February, my recruiter was really great - really informative and spot on. However, I almost feel like he's been avoiding me! LOL. I'm not quite sure how his other cadidates feel... but it's been frustrating me a lot (like many of you too). Also, I never received a copy of my acceptance letter. I went into my recruiter's office to sign it before it got sent in February. Does everyone get one in the mail or e-mail? Should I ask him about this when and if he gets back to me? In the meantime, I will be studying for the NCLEX and looking for a temporary job. I hope everyone get's there questions answered! Thank goodness for this forum; otherwise, I'd really be pulling my hair out. :-P

Confused about AF Nursing Program
Sounds like your husband and I are on the same page as far as not knowing our definite duty station and COT date! I'm graduating in a couple weeks too and still need to take the NCLEX. But I'm trying to figure out what to do with my time before I head over (assuming that I'll pass NCLEX on the first try!). My recruiter said the same thing - that he expects to find out specific information this summer. I'm a planner... so I totally understand your confusion!

Forensic Nursing within USAF
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about forensic nursing within the Air Force. For someone who is interested, would they have to go through AFOSI to pursue this as a career? Thanks in advance! :) Belle

waiting, Air Force Nurse Corps
Waiting... don't worry - if we haven't been there or done that already, we're going through it right now. I turned my application into the January Boards, heard that I got selected mid-February :) and signed my acceptance letter the week after. I graduate from a BSN program in about a month and still don't have a COT date. I highly doubt that I'll be headed to COT in August or October after reading some of your posts... but I wish I just knew! So I'm still waiting too... Should I e-mail/call my recruiter if he knows anything yet? Last I heard, I should be able to find out in late spring, early summer. I would just like to know! lol P.S. I'm so excited for all those who got accepted and are on their way!! :)

AF COT 08/23/2010 Anyone Else out there?
I will be graduating this coming May and will be taking my NCLEX soon after. I currently live and go to school in Virginia and my parents are living in California right now. I'm very family-oriented and am debating on when I should move back there to be with them before I start my career as an AF nurse. I just wish I knew my date! Haha. Patience is a virtue. :-P I'm extremely thankful that I got selected! But I'm itching to start or at least know so I can plan accordingly :-)

AF COT 08/23/2010 Anyone Else out there?
Hey everyone, Congrats to all :) Is it true that after COT 10-06 there won't be another COT class until March 2011?! My recruiter mentioned that there would be one in October 2010 and one in January 2011. He also told me that my window to leave would be between August and January, but since I don't have any definite dates yet I'm getting a bit worried about whether or not I should look for a temporary job until then. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance!

AF COT 08/23/2010 Anyone Else out there?
I got a called from my recruiter on Friday saying that I GOT SELECTED too!! :) Congratulations to those who have heard!!! I'm so excited to see what's ahead. Let me know when you hear about any definite dates for anything. My recruiter wasn't able to give me any at the time. I will be seeing him on Wednesday to sign my acceptance letter and to provide fingerprints for a background check. What an exciting time!

AF COT 08/23/2010 Anyone Else out there?
I'm also a senior in nursing school and my application was completed last month. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for August COT also! That's when I "should" be going to COT (according to my recruiter) if I get selected during the January boards. Good luck to everyone!! :)

January 2010 AF Boards
Hey guys, I'm trying to stay optimistic and trying to maintain my patience, but I wish I knew whether or not I will be selected this January/February...! With that said, does anyone know how competitive Air Force Nursing has become? What are my chances of not getting selected during the January boards? I was also wondering who the Air Force would prefer: a new grad or someone who has had their license for at least a year? Like I had mentioned in previous posts, I will be graduating this May and hope to start my career with this service. I know that the USAF had cancelled their third boards in March, so I am under the impression that it has become really competitive. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

January 2010 AF Boards
How exciting! Yes, I hope so too! It's nice to find someone who is going through the same thing as me :) The waiting process is undeniably the worst part, so I'm crossing my fingers and praying for all of us to get through it. That's one of the reasons why I started so early - this forum has been such an awesome resource! Reading all of the different threads has been one of the things that has helped me get through MEPS, the Chief Nurse interview, and has reassured me that I'm not the only one who has been having certain issues with the process (thus giving me more patience, lol). As far as hobbies go, I'll make sure to pick up a few It'll keep me sane as I prepare to study for the NCLEX!

January 2010 AF Boards
After starting the process in July, I finally sent in all my paperwork and FINALLY received my waiver to meet the December 22nd deadline for the Air Force. I know the boards will be meeting on January 19th and we should be hearing back from our recruiters to find out whether or not we get selected on February 5th. I graduate in May, will take the NCLEX soon after, and am hoping to start my journey at COT in August 2010. Is anyone else in my shoes??

Nursing review board
My refraction is pretty bad (-8.25 in my left eye). Fortunately, I see 20/20 with corrective lenses so it shouldn't be an issue. I've been told different things by different people, but as far as I know I now need a waiver to be medically cleared. Otherwise, I won't be able to move on. All my paper work is turned in so now it's just a waiting game for me. I received an email from my recruiter saying that the Surgeon General has 6 weeks to give me a waiver. I haven't had my interview with the Chief Nurse yet. I have a feeling I won't be meeting the Dec. 22nd deadline After the boards meet in January, when are they meeting next? Does anyone know? I heard that they meet in March, but I'm praying that I meet Decembers! Agh!

Nursing review board
Hey everyone, I've had a hard time getting a hold of my AF recruiter this past week (he's been really great up until this point) - and I have so many questions! I'm trying to meet the Dec. 22nd deadline and between work and school, I feel a tad bit behind. I have already gone to MEPS, but since I failed the depth perception portion of the vision screen I have to have an ophthalmology consultation before I can move forward. My recruiter told me that this shouldn't hold me back from joining, thank god. We had discussed that Tuesday (Nov. 10th) would be a tentative day to go, but he never got back to me and hasn't returned my phone calls. Should I be worried? I have set a deadline for myself to have my personal statement and last reference due for next week. Afterwards, should an interview with the Chief Nurse be scheduled? Am I missing any other paperwork? I graduate in May and, based on what my recruiter told me, I should be going to COT in August (after I pass my boards). Does this sound about right? Any information would be helpful! Thanks!
