How do I word this experience?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello! I need help with my resume. I am still a "new grad" per se, but I finally have RN experience to add to my resume, but am not sure how to word it.

I graduated from a diploma program in Sept, got licensed in Sept also, but it took me until January to find work.

The company I am working for is sort of a residential facility. This company buys homes and they allow medically fragile young adults to live there. For instance one of our patients has muscular dystrophy and is a quadriplegic with a trach/vent. We took him from a nursing home so that he can have his own home. We give him total care including trach care (including trach & string changes), suctioning, cofflating, CPT, meds via gtube etc.

I am totally lost on how to word this?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh also, the way my resume is already set up is utilizing bullet points.

Thank you!!

Kelly

Maybe create a list of "Proficiencies" and include trach care, G tubes, vents, etc. (whatever you are comfortable with). Then under your job bullets something like "Provide home nursing care for patients with x,y,z conditions (or fully dependent patients)" "Educate patients and their families regarding their plan of care" "Enable patients to live a more independent lifestyle through nursing support at home" "Safely and accurately administer medications via (routes)" "Complete home assessments of the patient and their environment". "Support patients in their transition from nursing homes to a home environment" "Communicate any changes of condition with the healthcare team". Just some general ideas... I've never done home care - you may want to look for sample resumes from home care nurses.

I would focus on your nursing responsibilities. Unless you're involved in selecting candidates for placement into these homes, what the company does is irrelevant. It sounds interesting, and it's something that may be a good talking point in an interview. But if your job is home care then just highlight your personal duties and responsibilities.
