Nursing Research online starting 5/19

Published

Hello anybody that is taking this course starting 5/19/2014.

I read the previous, quite lengthy thread that has been generated about this course and am now scared to death! I hate working with a group and statistics was not a strong subject for me.

Perhaps we can begin a thread for the upcoming class and provide support for each other during the hard times, then laugh about it when it's over!

And for anyone that has recently taken Nursing Research 4325 online: Do I need my Statistics textbook? Is there a lot of statistics-based math or statistics concepts that I may need to refer to?

Hi MBrickle,

I can't use the email system here, but whatever further advice you have to offer--I'm all ears!

You can access the PM system after 15 quality posts or by upgrading the membership.

So are all the papers submitted like research papers in APA format? And someone in a later comment in this thread said that we should submit all the papers in APA with references and citations because it would make the last paper much easier--this first assignment is somehow related to the final paper?

Here's how it works. You're going to go through this critique of her preselected paper. Each week.

At the end. You are going to redo every question every group member did with every ounce of instructor feedback incorporated on a research article your group selected. In APA glory. If you don't want this paper to be crap. Do all the work on the front end so you won't be trying to figure everything out at the end with a wing and a prayer. DO NOT GET BEHIND. Don't put stuff off till last day. Everything takes 2-3x longer than you think. Finally. The OOH's will answer everything. They are required listening for the class. If your group mates can't figure it out from the rubric, the OOH's, and the examples; they aren't trying. There wasn't much that was unclear.

I will email everyone the stuff tonight!

The OOH, discussion board Q&A, the assignment videos and the rubric give all of the clues as to what points need to be hit on. I painstakingly would listen to the OOH and take notes and then for EACH INDIVIDUAL QUESTION (1a, 1b, etc) I would list the rubric, OOH, Q&A and video information that outlined what information needs to be contained within each answer. I then posted it to the group thread. I hoped that this would help each group member hit all required points, and I also cross-referenced that list with each group member assignment to help show what information was missing from each answer when I critiqued (or re-wrote) each assignment.

Week 1-3 will be put together and polished to submit as the APA final paper. They are all parts of a whole.

My other suggestion: take it upon yourself to single-handedly correct each assignment once the AC gives it back to you. Makes week 5 easier.

Does anyone know what we are suppose to read for week 1 for vulnerable populations? I at least wanted to look over it before the quiz and BB is down. Thanks!

MBrickle, thank you so much for the wise suggestion!

I am taking it now. I don't think everyone in my group wants to get A or B. :(

Taking this class and vulnerable populations together has caused me to lose my sanity. If anyone finds it please return ASAP!!!

I hear ya. Week 2 in vulnerable is a beast. I took research with history II and pretty much only slept and did school work for a month. Oy!

Ready for this class to be over with. 2 weeks and 2 days left!!!

How's it going with your group and grades?

My/ our grades have been okay. Test went okay as well. My group? Well lets just say that I am ready to be done with this class.!!!

How's it going with your group and grades?

I took you advice!! Thanks for the tips mentioned in the thread. Has helped tremendously!!

I'm glad! Research is tough...if you want a good grade then you need

To be fully responsible for everyone else and their work which is doubly stressful! It will end and you will move on! It's like summiting a mountain - no other class in this program will be like research!
