Nursing qualifications: Enrolled Nurse: is it eqivalent to LPN or LVN?

Hi, I am interested to know if the Enrolled Nurse's course is eqivalent to the LPN or LVN course in the States, we have the Enrolled nurses course here which is 2 years, then one can do a two year Bridging to become a RN. I would like an opinion.

Our LPn/LVN program can range from 10 months to almost 2 year. Then the LPN sits for boards to gain licensure. The LPN can take some fast tract programs to be a RN in a year in some cases.The enrolled does sound close.

IF THE UK ENROLLED NURSES ARE THE SAME AS IN AFRICA, THEN I WOULD SAY THAT THEY ARE THE SAME AS LPNS. IN THE UK, ENROLLED NURSES USUALLY CANNOT GIVE IV DRUGS, AND IN THE USA THEY CANNOT, UNLESS THEY ARE SPECAILLY TRAINED. HOWEVER RN'S CAN. SO I WOULD SAY THAT THEY ARE.

We still have a few Enrolled nurses here in the UK, They trained for 2 years, but thier training is now obsolete, they were excellent bedside nurses, Most are given the opportunity to "convert" to RN, it would probably be near on impossible for them to gain a position in an acute area now unless they retained the posts they had before the EN course was wiped out. We have NVQ nursing aides now, who are more or less doing the same job but for a lot less money and without a formal Nursing Qualification. The Enrolled nurse can extend thier role by doin courses for IV access, venepuncture etc etc, but why should they !! they would be doin exactly the same job as an RN without the recognition they deserve, or the salary Grades !!! In my opinion Calling Enrolled Nurses, RN second level is so degrading.
