Starting point is applying to the state you plan on living and working. Once you meet their requirements you will get eligibility to sit NCLEX

I studied at UMET and moved to FL. I first choose a state to apply to. I went through Wisconsin because they do not see Puerto Rico as international like a lot of states do (i.e Florida). So I went on the website for the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and printed out the forms and checked out their requirements. Then I sent in the first form with the payment. The second form the school has to sign and send (your Director of Nursing). You also have to make an account with pearson vue and you CAN take it in Puerto Rico it just cost a little extra and you'll need your passport ( I took it in Florida and had a FL drivers license) Then you apply for the test and pey the $200 around there it cost to take the nclex. Then you wait to get yout ATT (Authorization to Test) once you have that you can go on pearson vue and choose a date. MAKE SURE YOU ATT HAS THE EXACT NAME AS YOUR PASSPORT OR STATE LICENSE.

Thank you, silverdragon and jen_jen. I have 4 states that i can not made my mind off (FL, CT, MA & last but not least NY) lol Im willing to relocate plus Im familiar with those states (lived) sometime. @Jen_Jen88 can i use a state drivers lic instead of the passport. I have travel state to state (PR back and forward) never thought i needed one. Havent travel outside us. Once I get my ATT/nclex, do they issue a license while waitting for the att? Or how does it work? What happened if you dont pass the 1rst time, do I run out of opportunities to be license? Thank you

You'll need a US drivers license. SOME states have a temporary RN license but the majority do not. You'll have to keep paying for the test if you don't pass the first time but lets stay positive here. Each state is different I believe in FL you have three chances and if you fail again you'll need to take remediation courses.

With this economy I cant afford, not to be Positive, lol but seriuosly my kids are counting on me I have to be positive for them. They want to go back home but momys RN lic is from PR. I will try my best. they are my Strenghts. I found a company thru the web (puerto rico nurses) they have an nclex review and helps "with the paper work" to apply. Thats so far I know. Im searshing for option. When you did took the nclex, How was it? Dificult??

Very lol I took the Hurst review in Puerto Rico at centro medico it was the first time given there. I stud my butt off and I thought I failed when I got out. But if you prepare yourself and do lot's a questions you have a good chance at passing out

Jenjen did you pass? After you get your ATT you can sit for the test in any state? I want to work in CA. Do you know anything about CAs requirements?

ATT is only issued after a state rules you eligible to sit the NCLEX. Whether you can work in other states after meeting requirements for one state will depend on the requirements of the new state. Each state has their own requirements and CA currently strict. Suggest checking CA state website and links can be found at the bottom of the page

Yes I passed. I took my test in FL but for Wisconsin then I just endorsed my RN licence to FL because FL was strict with international students but I passed and I am currently working as a nurse.

Awesome I hear California is strict too. So maybe something like this works there too. I'd like to hear from someone who did that and is working now too. Also in terms of paying for school do most people take out loans or can you work while in school. I already have a lot of school loans so would like to not have too many more, is it worth it though? ARe UMET and Inter legit universities? people are making me feel sketchy about going to PR for nursing school...
