Nursing program @ Carondelet in Tucson?

This from the Carondelet (Tucson) website:

"Onsite, fully paid educational programs for PCT to A. D. N., A.D.N. to BSN and BSN to MSN degrees"

Does anyone know anything about this? I wonder what college this is through?

I know a few PCTs that are going throught the program now. The way that it works, the first two semesters they took classes that were taught by staff from Carondelet using Pima College materials. I am pretty sure that they even took the same tests. The third and fourth semesters they were bleneded in with Pima regular classes (see, at Pima, they loose a few students every semester...so you may start with 100 students, but by 4th you are down to 60 or so) They seem to be tweeking the program a bit, because there are some students that are going through the program now with short breaks...rather than the entire summer off. The students are still responsible for taking all the co-requ's on their own. They had been teaching the classess at the Villa...which is a building near St Joe's....but space is tight, so I have no doubt that they will be including some class room space in the new women's pavillion.....

I hope this helps, but at least it will be accurate. I work for Carondelet Tucson and I am currently in the PCT to RN program. Carondelet has two contracted programs of this sort. One is with Pima Community College and one is through Rio Salado College in Maricopa County. Pima is the traditional program while Rio is online. Through both programs, clinicals are done at the Carondelet hospitals for the most part. Since none of Carondelet's hospitals have peds units, the peds rotations are arranged at some of the other local hospitals. The program is paid for by the hospital's foundation, including your books. At the end of the program, and after you have passed your RN Boards, you owe the hospital 2 years service as an RN. I have finished the first two blocks and have sat for my NCLEX-PN boards and I am currently orienting to that position in the ED. FYI, every program has it's bumps. But over all, if you need to have someone physically there to answer your questions, or to remind you and support your through the program, Pima is the program you want. I am in block 3 of Rio Salado's program and will with hold my opinion until I am finished with the program. Any other questions?

Does Carondelet in Tucson still have the PCT to ADN program?? If so, I'm thinking of moving back to Tucson and getting the ball rolling!! I love the idea of a hospital nursing program. Any of you that are doing this program now, please PM me, I would LOVE to know the details. Thanks!!! :) :nurse:

Anyone? Is there anyone out there doing the PCT-ADN program at Carondelet right now? I'm really very curious how it is, how long it takes, what about the pre-reqs, etc. Also, when you get hired on as a PCT for Carondelet, how soon can you begin the PCT-ADN program?

Thanks!! :) :nurse:

Yoo hoo, anyone? :) Sorry I keep bumping this up, I just don't want the thread to get lost. :) Any PCT-ADN students at Carondelet, past or present, please feel free to PM me.

Is anyone on this forum currently in the Carondelet PCT-ADN nursing program? If so, I have a few questions. :) Hubby and I are looking to move back to Tucson and I would love to work for Carondelet as a PCT and get in on this program. The one through Rio Salado would work perfectly for me. Thanks!! :) :nurse:

Why don't you call Carondelet and find this information our for yourself? The last post in this thread (other than from you) is over a year ago. If you don't want to call then send them an email through thier website..

Thanks... I did call, but only learned the basics over the phone. I can't go down there right now because I am out of state. Just wanted to talk to someone that is in the program right now to see how they like it. :)

So you have to be a PCT to be considered for the program? Does Carondelet train for that too or do I have to go for it at PCC? I would love to get into this program.

Hi! As far as I know, Carondelet still has a PCT training class, and it is paid training. :) Or if you want to do the training at Pima Community College, that would work, too (but to take Pima CC's PCT class, I believe you have to be a CNA first), then you could apply for the Patient Care Technician I position. I did call Carondelet a while back and they said that after the 90 day probationary period, PCT's are allowed to begin the on-site nursing program. I am not sure if their on-site nursing program includes pre-reqs, or if you need to have those done first. I'm also not sure how long the program lasts. Hoping to find out soon! Good luck! :) Maybe we will be classmates. :nurse:
