Yes, went through Rue to accomplish my RN. As you see, I am still a LPN.You don't need to go through a liason, contact Excelsior College directly. They will instruct you on what you need and they have an on-line library in which to purchase books needed.Rue provides the same materials at a much greater cost. They do not give you any direction they just keep mailing you books.Excelsior has Academic Advisors in which you can utilize.I am currently going through Excelsior directly and am 3 exams away fro :) m my degree.

I am an ADN/RN and am doing the home study/computer study for my BSN through Kaplan University online. It is the best that I have found. I know of 7 LPNs who used RUE for their ADN, and only one passed the RN boards the first try, 2 on the second try, 3 on the third try, and the 7th person gave up.

Kaplan is GREAT!!! They offer convenient, flexible coursework, and the books are included in the tuition. AND, they are accredited, so a government loan will cover the cost. I do not think they have LPN to RN; they do have ADN to BSN and then BSN to MSN. It is an awesome program.

My husband transitioned to RN (successfully) through Excelsior. Rue does not provide an independent school, all they do is provide study materials to pass the Excelsior tests. My husband started with Rue but found the materials very lacking and there are much better and MUCH cheaper materials out there. We also had a very poor experience with their customer service when he found the materials unacceptable. I could not recommend Rue at all.

I USE RUE AND AM HAPPY SO FAR

Just to elaborate, you do not get your RN through Rue. You get your RN through Excelsior College. Rue is a company that supplies study materials for each Excelsior College test. These study guide companies usually cost thousands of dollars for the materials to pass all of the required exams. Excelsior College supplies free exam content guides for all of their exams which you can order through the college or download off of their website. You do not need a study guide company to pass these exams. If you purchase the text book(s) suggested by Excelsior, and study the material listed in the free content guide, you will have all the information required to pass the exams. There are many websites where you can purchased used text books at a fraction of the cost of new. All of that said, I personally went with a study guide company (Not Rue). I have been happy with them, however, if I knew then what I know now, I probably would have done things differently. Some of these study guide companies seem to make it appear that THEY give you your degree, which is just not the case. If you are interested in doing your RN through Excelsior, you could do one or two of the nursing concepts exams with just the free content guide and a text book and see how you do. (you need to register with Excelsior College to start, but do not need to pay the $$$ enrollment fee until after you complete NC 1 and 2). Also, call Exclesior's toll free number for more information. They are really great, and very helpful. :specs:

I knew i could go right thru excelsior directly but the admissions person i talked to was so rude i decided to go through a publishing company. They're helpful and the studyguides are great.

Hi: this is not a reply, it a question

I have been an LPN for 8 months. And I truly enjoy being a nurse, its hard work harder then I ever dream of. However I love every minute of it. I want to continue my education, but due to existing circumstances, I am unable to go back to school. I am really interested in becoming a RN. And I would like to know if this University online is for real. Is it accredited and how is it possible to get an RN license on line. Don't we need to do hands on, or have to do some kind of internship? will it be valid in NYC. When I read this message I got so excited I could not believe what I was reading, I asked so many people about the online education and nobody could assure me of it legitimacy. I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight thinking of my future as a RN.

In answer to your question....sort of! Rue is not a college, Rue supplies students (at a big cost) the materials, textbooks, notes, study guides needed to pass the exams required to get your RN through Excelsior College. You actually get your RN through Excelsior College, which, by the way is in New York! As a current LPN you will need to take nursing courses and general ed. courses to get your RN. You can visit the Excelsior College website at www.Excelsior.edu for more information. I have found their staff to be very helpful. They will send you material and information on how to go from LPN to RN. The courses are done by 'correspondence' in that you are responsible for getting the information and knowledge as outlined in the Excelsior Course Outline. Whether you do it on your own, or use a company such as Rue, is your decision. You can dowload free exam content guides from Excelsior College from their website, or they will mail them to you. Give them a call on their toll free number, and have them send you an information package...I think you'll be more than happy!! Besides the computer exams you are required to take for the courses you need, there is also a 2 1/2 day clinical exam at the end of it all. But you'll find out all about that. I am 3/4 of the way through my RN through Excelsior. This is the perfect place to come and ask questions as many of us have either completed our RN through them, or are currently doing it. And yes, Excelsior's RN program is accepted by New York, and all but 3 or 4 of the other states. Good luck, its a great program!

Now go get some sleep!:)

Excelsior is not an on-line program. You study on your own and then test-out for credit. You do not have to do the traditional "clinicals" because you already have your LPN license. I didn't not go thru any publishing company, but I did purchase a few study guides on E-bay for around $40-$50. I like the Chancellor's study guide the best because I don't have to look up the information myself, although Excelsior does provide free study guides.

You do have to pass a 2 1/2 day clinical evaluation after finishing all your nursing tests. Hope this helps.

I do know that with Most online LPN to ADN programs, at the end of the program, you are required to do a weekend clinical and skills lab/check-off.

Some programs require, also, that you have a mentor, for which you have to turn in a contract. How to determine if a program is legitimate, is to find outr if they are accredited, meaning, are their grads eligible to sit for state boards or are they NLN recognized.
