Excelsior nursing degrees

Nursing Students Online Learning

Hi to all this evening...

I have been considering the LPN-RN at Excelsior. But, I am confused regarding the AS/AAS nursing degrees. Could someone please explain the difference between the two degrees?

If this has been posted previously, I apologize...

Thanks so much...

I'm in Excelsior. It has to do with non-nursing courses and where you already have your credits. I have a bazillion credits from traditional liberal arts curricula so I am eligible for the AS. If you don't you'll be more likely to get an AAS. Don't worry; they'll tell you which you're doing.

Yep, I also have a bazillion credits from my first two Associates degrees, and ended up on the AS track.

One interesting thing I noticed in looking at the updated Fees and Tuition page -- the graduation cost for the AAS is only $245, as compared to the $495 it takes for the AS. Hmmph.

Lunah! Seriously? I had no idea the grad fees were less for one. I too, did the AS due to already having another AAS. I honestly don't know the difference between the two to this day, just did the one they said my credits applied most appropriately for and didn't realize I had a choice. I think maybe the AAS has a few more humanities credits than the AS or something...

i can tell you the difference. the as (associate in science) has electives that are sciences . in the aas (associate in applied science) program the electives are called free electives meaning you can take a psych or humanities (basically what ever you want to make those 7 credits) .

Where are we looking at this cost difference? When I go to the Publications list under Financial Aid, there is a brochure called "How Much Will Your Excelsior College Associate Degree Cost?" It lists a $495 graduation fee for all students.

According to the brochure, they do provide a graduation fee discount of $15 for every credit earned via EC courses (which I assume would not include EC exams).

I saw it on the "Fees and Tuition" page (from the "Financial Aid & Costs" menu item). On that page it listed the graduation costs for an AAS as $295. It may have been general information, though, and not applicable to the Nursing program, perhaps? And the enrollment fee was a lot lower, too. Of course, now that I try to pull it up, it has a link to a PDF from the publication request page, and it's crashing my computer. But I know I saw it -- I double checked it as I was posting in the thread here. Weird.

Okay, now that I got the PDF to download ... they've updated their PDFs with the latest fees/tuition as of July 1, and this one specifies that the "AAS" in question is for other programs besides Nursing. I guess before they had the PDFs, they just had a general list of fees on that page, and it just said "AAS" and "$245." The enrollment fee listed was a lot lower, too! But now I know it's not applicable to the Nursing program. Sorry for the mis-info!
