Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone out there was minoring in anything? Alot of people say it is a risky thing to do being that nursing school is intense but I would think minoring in something would give a leg up. Thanks.

My minor was health science. I found it to be a good complement to nursing, particularly since my plans at the time were to go forward to obtain a MPH, and the courses I was taking were required for those plans.

I'm minoring in Psych along with my BSN program, but only because I have room in my schedule and I need to be full time. Minors aren't many credits, so I think it could be doable for anyone. What are you thinking about minoring in?
I was thinking about minoring in psych or spanish...I'm torn between the two.
I think Spanish would be a great idea...many places only want nurses who can speak spanish because it's so helpful. I suggest talking to a nursing advisor to see if it's a good idea and how the classes would work into your schedule.

My major is nursing, but I am completing my business degree simultaneously. I know it sounds ridiculous but I was 12 credits shy of completing my business degree, so it made to sense to finish. To make it even more interesting they are both accelerated. I guess I am a glutton for punishment!

I think getting a minor is a good idea. I often wish I had done that. It might not help much in getting that first job, but you never know. And it gives you indepth knowledge of a 2nd field that might help you later on in life.
I would recommend choosing something you really like rather than choosing something because you think it would help your career. Over the course of many years, we tend to gravitate to the types of work we like -- and that minor will come in handy as you do that. If you pick something you don't really like, you won't find yourself later choosing jobs that relate much to that field -- and the minir won't be of much use.

I'm a Psych minor...great compliment to Nursing, especially if you take some of the physiologically-related courses like Neuropsychology and Physiopsychology. So many of our patients will have the need for us to tend to problems due to stroke. It has also done a great deal for me in helping people cope with emotional issues. I'm an EMT...and I can say that on the field..having a Psych background has done wonders for me.
For me it was easy to complete the Psych minor because I was aiming to graduate as a Psych major and then apply to accelerated programs, but I transfered into my University's traditional program as a Nursing major with a Psych minor completed.
I might double major in Psych and Nursing if my school lets me...
Best of luck!! ... minor if your schedule allows and if you think you'll enjoy and benefit from a subject.

I am currently a pre-nursing major (later going to nursing) but I was thinking of maybe minoring in African American studies or Business or maybe English lol. I'm so indecisive. I want to open my own business that involves nursing but im also a good writer and interested in African American studies also lol. Im so confused.!

Psych should be no problem, but if you had gone to my university, Spanish would have been quite difficult with Nursing. My friend tried to do it, but the requirements were more complicated than she anticipated.
I started to pursue a Nutrition minor but the pre-reqs I needed for the courses were too much combined with the sciences I was already taking with Nursing.
