First call from a hiring manager!

Nurses Job Hunt

Okay, I'm at home, right? I'm looking online...reviewing my application statuses for RN positions like I do most of the time; most of them have been sent to the hiring managers for reviewing. I start getting discouraged because I have not received any phone calls from any managers for like a month now. I think my resume is pretty good; just the basics. Then, my cell phone rings...it's a different area code, it's actually the area where I am moving and applying for jobs. And finally! after submitting like 10 applications, a hiring manager calls me! I am freaking out while I am on the phone (internally of course). But, I am trying to stay cool, calm, and collected. You know...I am very energized, interested, and professional, and trying to listen to everything the manager is saying. I start to get nervous and my voice changes and gets shaky; my heart is pounding - oh yeah, I have some good anxiety alright! I think I totally blew it! No interview offer! He said he would call back  He thought I was in the area already (6 hours away!)...but I don't graduate until May 19th! uugggh :banghead:. I am sooooo bombed right now. But still excited I got my first call! He was reaaaalllly nice. And the hospital is like 5minutes away from where I am going to be residing, amaaazzzzing! But I'm okay...now, I know what to expect. I do not even remember hearing what position it was for. I applied for an ER and Med-surg position at that facility. I hope he calls back! ahhh! But still, All Glory to GOD! God Bless Ya'll and good luck on you all's future endeavors!

I wouldn't stress too much about it! He'll probably wait until after you graduate to schedule an interview! You won't be there until after May 19th, so you wouldn't be able to work until then anyway! Driving 6 hours to work, just wouldn't work. The other places you applied to are probably waiting for the same thing!!! Just pray about it, that's what I always do! I'm waiting for my certification test to come back, and all of the places I've called that are hiring said they're waiting for the same! So hopefully I'll be able to update my applications and get a job! And hope you can do the same!! =)

@Brannray - Thanks for the reply! I really hope he calls back soon with some good news. I am definitely looking forward to it now that I have gotten the phone call. It's also now becoming more real that I am about to become a nurse! Also, I told my family about the call and they said it sounded like it was a phone interview. And now that I think about it, it probably was. He was asking questions like what led you to relocate and have you had any other jobs working in the hospital...etc. But, I am definitely going to stay optimistic and see what happens. And yes yes yes...you are right - prayer and also thanks is a must! I also wish you the best of luck with everything. If we are ambitious enough and keep God first, we'll be fine! :D

If there is anyway you can get his email...I'd send him a quick note. Something along the lines of:

I appreciated your call on Monday. As we discussed, I will be graduating shortly and relocating to your area. From our discussion the hospital seems like a good fit for me, and I am excited about the possibility of beginning my nursing career with XYZ hospital.

Here is my contact information once again. I hope to hear from you soon.

I know, it seems like overkill, but remember Recruiters are there to hire nurses...so...putting yourself up in front of them again is something that will most likely help, and putting yourself out there as a polite person (with good grammar etc) never hurts either.

Good Luck!!!!!
