I hope you know Parisan French is not the same as Quebec French, and you must be totally fluent including medical terminology.

Hi Ginger's Mom,

Thank you for your reply, honestly, i didn't know that. :uhoh3: Since im still here in the Philippines waiting for my packet, what can you advice me regarding learning French? Any ideas? thanks:redpinkhe

@aixfajardo

You can enrol in Alliance francaise de Manille or Cebu. They don't teach Quebec french there but they are also a partner of the Quebec government for you to be able to learn french.

BTW, have your agency told you how much you guys are going to pay for the bridging program in Quebec?

Hi Yoopian,

Manila or Cebu is far from where i am now, I live in Batangas City, don't know if you know my province. I guess I'll have to search for French Classes here. :uhoh3:

Regarding the bridging program, yes my consultancy gave me the list of all the expenses i shall pay including the payment for the Board of Nursing, which is CA$700, (is this true?), and my initial tuition fee of CA$1750 (total of CA$7000 for 5months of studying). Actually right now, I'm still doubting my consultancy whether their offer is legit or not, and i already paid almost half of their consultancy fee. I'm still waiting for the application packet and according to them(consultancy), it takes 2-3 weeks from the time i emailed the request to be delivered here. I hope this is really legit because i really want to go to Canada to work as a nurse. Thanks :)

@aixfajardo

I'm from the Philippines too. Alliance francaise de Manille is in Makati. Their intensive courses goes for a little less than 5,000 pesos. You'll have two days of class in a week with three hours per class.

How long have you been working as a nurse? Do you have any remunerated work experience?

P.S.

Thanks for the info regarding the tuition fees that we'd have to pay. I had no idea how much that would've been.

Hi Yoopian,

Are you still here in the Philippines? Did you attend this Alliance Francaise? Sorry for having many questions. :|

Actually, I am not working in a hospital right now, because may be you know the situation of nursing here in PH, that nurses, to be able to "work" as nurse should undergo training, for atleast 6 months without getting paid, and even the salary here is really low for us nurses so i really want to pursue my nursing career outside PH. After i learn about this Quebec Nursing Program I immediately grab the opportunity hoping i can go to Canada and bring my family there.

Alliance francaise is like the official organization that aims to teach french as a secondary language in the whole world. I think we only have Af Manille and Af Cebu here in the country. Yes I did attend AfM and I'm planning to go back there again to learn french this October. :) I've sent you an email. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Quebec French is very different from French French. Yes, the grammar is the same but the accent, words (some of the Quebecois is archaic) and slangly. The French roll their eyes when hearing the French Canadian speak. French French is taught in the rest of Canada, so there is even that division here.

Now, if y'all are determined to settle in Canada, perhaps you should learn to use our terminology and not the American. Canadians do NOT have Boards of Nursing.

I would not pay any money to any agency other than the Quebec Government. It you are serious about immigrating to Quebec I would become fluent in French and know the local language. You will have to pass the licensing test in French. No consultancy agency can do this for you........ save you money trying to take short cuts they don't work. Learn Quebec French and learn about their rich culture.

Once you become fluent in Canadian French, go to http://www.oiiq.org/ which has all the information you need to immigrate to to Quebec. As one who has traveled to Quebec many times, the natives are very proud of their heritage and have low tolerance for anyone who can't speak their language fluently.

No agency or consultant is going to provide any short cuts to coming to this Province. Save your money.

The Province of Quebec is beautiful but very, very cold. If you love the French Canadian culture this is the place for you. I would doubt the use of Tagalog would be tolerated since they are offended by anyone speaking anything except the official language.

Actually the Quebec government has ties with Alliance francaise. We enroll to learn french and keep our certificates and receipts and by the time we get there in Quebec, they can give us a refund of up to $1,500 CAD.

@Ginger's Mom

Who says we'll be using Tagalog to speak to French Canadians? Don't worry though, maybe I can't speak any form of proper french right now but I'm gonna make sure I'd be ready when the time comes for me to register there. Thanks for the advice.
