I have decided Nursing just isn't for me. So, I will not be applying for any LPN or RN programs. Long story short..I don't like poo, vomit, urine or anything of the like. I REALLY wish it didn't bother me, but it does. Not everone is cut out for Nursing, and I must accept that.
Do you think that Respiratory Therapy would be a better alternative for someone like me?
Any info appreciated.
It's 2008 and it surprises that a lot of nursing students don't know that there are many many different careers for an RN. A lot of people don't even set foot in a hospital once they graduate. In fact hospital nursing is just a small portion of the careers available to nurses. Now you do have to get through nursing school. If you just muscle through it then you won't have to deal with it on the othereside if you don't want to. But if you can't deal with it to get you through nursing school then i guess that is too bad...oh well.

As a medical tech (microbiology) I can attest to the fact that you do get used to it eventually. I deal with all those body fluids :uhoh21: all day long, the smelly c-diffs, pleural fluids, urine, spit, all of it. And the one thing I keep in mind is that this is helping people.
I feel for the patient who has to have their lungs suctioned out, and the pain that must be for them. Respiratory therapy is becoming a "sign on bonus" profession. It would be an alternative for you. But as the other posters have said, if you can get through nursing there are always other options away from the poo. I know of a few nurses who are quickly getting their BSN's so they can get off the floors. Anyway, the best of luck to you ! :nuke:

How about Massage Therapist?
I have a few friends who are RN - MT. If you are interested in human body, like helping people, but cannot deal with blood, massage therapy might be an option!?
Although, in many cases, massage therapy has some business aspect. If you are apt at business, it might be a good choice. I always tell myself---
"Knowing what you don't like is as important as knowing what you like."
I hope you will find something you care.
