Has anyone seen the new Tampax commercial where it tells women to "use your period for good"? If you buy Tampax they will provide young girls in Africa with sanitary products and help them go to school.
Where to these marketers come up with these crazy slogans? I thought the Benefiber commercial where it suggests that drinking fiber is sexy was crazy, but this one is a step beyond that.
They could have at least said if you buy Tampax we will donate xxxx amt of money to provide young African girls sanitary products so they can go to school.
I just read some of the pamphlets about "growing up and liking it" (growing up) and found them very informative, especially in a time when women complained that NO one ever told them anything about getting their period.
There was a detailed explanation of menstruation with a couple of photos of female organs. It talked about moods and parents and lots of interesting things.
Way more details than I thought was discussed in 1957.
I did explain it to my daughter as something amazing - the way our bodies were designed to be able to have children. I wanted to focus on the positive because when I was growing up, it really wasn't talked about much and in a negative fashion. How scary for a young pre-teen to hear negative stuff.
My mother and grandmother, by the way, told me HORROR stories about pap/pelvic exams. When I went in for my 1st exam I was so frightened. As I sat on the exam table before disrobing and the doc came in to talk to me, he looked at my neck and said "When did these hives start?". I had scared myself so badly that I broke out in hives. He was so kind and gentle and explained the whole thing to me and a woman was there too while the exam happened.
Guess what? IT WAS NO BIG DEAL! I was so mad at my mom and grandma that I went right over there and told them so.
Now, it isn't a fun thing . . but it isn't the HORROR that they told me about either.
Why scare our kids?

I have a feeling a man came up with that slogan. I am having visions of a caped super heroine with a tampon on her chest.:chuckle
I'd rather save my hormonal rages for evil....
Those ads/ t-shirts are nuts. I warned my hubby that if he told me to have a happy period he'd live to regret it.
*sigh* :angryfire

OMG!!! I laughed so hard my CNA's thought I went crazy and came running over to see what was so funny! Then we were all laughing so loud at the "super heroine" that we were in danger of waking the pt's in the rooms closest to the station!
