I am very angry about that witchhunt of a "watchlist". I just spent an entire weekend defending my facility because we showed up on it.

Shame on Consumers Union for compiling a report full of inaccuracies. Shame on them for upsetting residents who live in these places, shame on them for upsetting family members who have loved ones in these facilities and shame on them for upsetting the staff that works HARD in these places.

The LTC I work for wasn't on the list, and I knew we did well, during our survey. I'm very proud of the LTC I work for. Yet, I agree with Wendy, this list stuff is very unfair. We work very hard for our facilities and these lists are very misleading.

Funny: the list seems pretty accurate, at least with the two facilities I'm familiar with. The better facility is not on that list but the one that has problems, and a lower standard of care, is.

Gotta tell you I checked and I know two facilities that should be on it but aren't...Yikes. And at least one that was on it I thought looked awsome and have been told good things about. I'm confused.

the irony is, sometimes places get so upset about being mentioned by consumer advocacy groups or whatever that they clean it up and become very good places, better than those never mentioned on a list.

I used to work at New Horizons North and New Horizons West (both in Gainesville, GA). I'm surprised North ended up on the list. Unlike West, that facility didn't have a huge pee smell the minute I walked in the door. Of course, that was almost ten years ago, and those homes could be in different shape now.

Another surprise was that Wesley Woods didn't get on the list. One of our residents was sent there recently for rehab, and it looks like her family will be getting her out. Every time they visit her, she is in restraints and wearing briefs--she NEVER needed these when she was with us. She can barely hold a conversation--sounds like they have her doped up, too. :angryfire So why aren't they on the list??

You really have to check various lists and sources. I worked at a horrible hell-hole LTC that was rated the worst of the worst on one watch list, and not listed at all on several other lists.
