For a start you can sit the exam in Europe or Manila so no need to worry about going to the US to sit it. Also depends on which BON/BRN you apply to for licensure as some require local license before they will process your application. Ca has just started doing this. Suggest a good read in this forum. Good starting point would be the sticky called Primer to working in the USA and would also suggest you read up on retrogression as you will be affected by it at some stage and goes by place of birth not Citizenship.

If you still have any questions after reading on this forum and using the search facility please ask

You can't take the nle in the philippines coz you are not a filipino. I think you still need to apply for a dual citizenship if you want to take the nle.

difinitely you CANT take the NLE thats clear in Nursing Act of 2002 that only citizen of the Philippines can seat for the NLE.

Per the Ca BRN, they are stating that one can sit for the NLE, but never be issued a license. Not sure if this is actually true per the PRC, but it is what CA is now requiring.

No reason to fly to the US to write the NCLEX exam as there are no visas available at this time and we do not expect any for quite sometime. So now way to remain here when you have completed the exam.

Not sure if you were planning on doing this, but wanted you to be aware, nonetheless.

:nurse: thanks for the infos!! like i said, i've graduated bsn in the philippines and i haven't had the chance to take the local board yet as i dont know if i need to.... i have been advised that according to nursing act of 2002, only local citizens of the philippines have the right to take the nle... considering that i am a citizen of europe, i dont need a visa to fly to the us if i'd like to take the nclex there or here in europe if they administer nclex here too. i'm so confused!!! i dont know where to turn to . i have been preparing a self-review for the nclex however, i dont have any idea if it will require me to pass the local board prior to taking the nclex.

does anyone of you here know someone who has the same case like mine??? if so ..... please drop me a message!!! thanks:nurse:

Firstly you are applying for licensure to be a RN in the US so best bet would be to read the sticky called Primer to working in the US all information is there on what to do. Secondly which EU country are you a citizen of as you may need a local license to work there as you will be affected by retrogression and looking at several years before if lucky obtaining a work visa for the US. Also which country was you born as that will be the deciding factor on how long you will be affected with retrogression?

Would also suggest you chek out the NCLEX forum in the student section as very good support groups plus hints and tips to help you with the exam.

It does not matter what one has done in the past, that does not apply to you as things have changed. And more and more states are requiring the local license.

Be aware that you are looking at several years before getting a chance at a green card for the US, so how are you going to get experience if you cannot work someplace?

You may wish to look into getting licensed in your country.

This is not true and has never been. I asked the legal department of PRC myself. They can only allow you to apply for the NLE if you present proof of being a Filipino (Voters ID, passport or Dual Citizenship ID)

Sorry, but please read some of the threads that are now being posted by those talking about getting licensure in CA and the letters that they have received from the BRN; this is not something that I just have made up but what the BRN is requiring before they will give permission for one to be able to sit for the NCLEX exam.

Not sure if they were told something recently, but this is their requirement and I did not make it up. They are requiring the local license, for both green card holders as well as US citizens that have trained in the Philippines.

Just check out those threads and then let my know what you think, but there have been quite a few that have gotten that letter in the past few weeks. And others need to be aware of it.

I am very aware of what the rules have been in the past and am very aware of what CA is now writing to people about.

I didnt say that you made anything up, as a matter of fact you are vast sea of information and you've been of great help to me (and thousands of other people in this board)

What I am saying is I tried to take the board exams, and PRC has made it very clear to me that I couldnt. What I am saying is I dont know where Ca BON got that Idea that one could take the Philippine NLE when I just checked with them a few weeks ago. What I am saying is I really tried to apply . Its their own judgement to accept an application based on their set requirements, yes but quite frankly I dont know where they got the idea that one could take it, because law clearly states that:

Section 13. Qualifications for Admission to the Licensure Examination. - In order to be admitted to the examination for nurses, an applicant must, at the time of filing his/her application, establish to the satisfaction of the Board that:

(a) He/she is a citizen of the Philippines, or a citizen or subject of a country which permits Filipino nurses to practice within its territorial limits on the same basis as the subject or citizen of such country: Provided, That the requirements for the registration or licensing of nurses in said country are substantially the same as those prescribed in this Act;

(b) He/she is of good moral character; and

© He/she is a holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a college or university that complies with the standards of nursing education duly recognized by the proper government agency.

To Ms Suzanne Im sorry if it came across as I was questioning you. I wasnt. I just would like to know how CA BON came up with such statements since it has never been done.
