Nursing doesnt define you

Published

It only defines a part of you :p. So what are some things you enjoy in your off time? Ive met so many special personalities here on allnurses. Some fiesty nurses, some sweet nurses, as well as some great student nurses. Ive been in nursing (officially since 2003) and it's a special part of my life, but one other thing that Im known for is my goofiness (which you may not see on this page) LoL! Anyhow, I like to write, do things with my husband and kids (amusement parks are my fav because I love rollercoasters!), I love museums, Im always trying new recipes, history is my fav subject, Im crazy emotional - I guess I could go on forever because Im also VERY TALKATIVE. :D Enough about me, what about you guys? What other things make you, you? :)

My first passion is the theater and ballet. I love all of the arts actually. I was born in New York City and am crazy about it, it's my favorite place in the world. I had to leave as a child but I try to get back several times a year...I really feel alive there...I see a few Broadway shows, but mainly I just love to walk around the city and through the parks.

I also love to read...I have read voraciously since elementary school. I have been known to read a book a day when I am not working. I have sworn that I am a purist and would only read books, but I feel myself slowly weakening and will probably cave in and get a kindle or some sort of digital book reader thing. I love mainly the mystery thriller type things...anything but romance...yuck

I am also an ardent animal lover...in fact I always say I like animals better than people and some days that's very true..most days..I have a sweet little puggie girl named Isabella Rose (Bella for short)

As far as TV goes..I don't watch too much..except for right now..it's FOOTBALL SEASON..yea!!! GO COLTS....even though I live in South Florida, I am an Indianapolis Colts fan...I lived in Indy in 2000-2002 and came to love the colts..and Peyton Manning (only the greatest quarterback that ever played football)....and for college..Go Gators.

I have 2 beautiful daughters that are now grown and married. The younger one is in Gainesville at the University of Florida, she is in Vet school...in her second year. She always wanted to be a vet, I am so proud of her.

My other daughter is in Seattle and has my 2 grandchildren...who are the greatest kids in the world!!(age 4, 8)

I am hoping to move to Washington soon...

I actually love to laugh with my crazy friends, when I am not doing that, I really like peace and quiet...and to be left alone...;)

I kinda-sorta stumbled into nursing. I don't think it defines me. I'm good at what I do but it's not my "passion" and it's never been a "calling" :) I think it all started when I was a wee kid and picked up this book called "Know Your Body" (I think it was also called "I am Joe's Body") by Reader's Digest. Anybody remember this book? Basically each chapter was about a different organ or organ system narrated from the first perspective. "I am Joe's spleen" or "I am Joe's liver" [side note: I thought it was hilarious how this was referenced in the movie "Fight Club"]. It was so fascinating, I begged Papa to buy me an anatomy textbook! I've been hooked onto all things medicine/human body/biology ever since...

I LOVE reading! I usually read about 3-4 books at a time. Which was why I broke down a few months ago and bought a kindle - I was running out of space at home for all my books! I read everything from sci-fi to military history to economics and philosophy. I blame my parents! ;)

I'm not a big TV person - I often joke that the only reason I have TV at home is so that I can watch hockey (Go Sabres!) But I AM a fan of the old classics (especially westerns. And at the risk of being accused of heresy - Clint Eastwood beats John Wayne. There! I said it!). I'll watch "Psych" or "Law and Order:SVU" (What's more disturbing: the fact that one of the most popular shows on TV deals with rape and murder or the fact that I like it so much?) if they're on. I love watching stuff on Discovery, NatGeo, Science channel and History. I don't DVR stuff on TV (except hockey!) I abhor "reality TV". Jersey Shore makes me wanna hurl... but I do like "Top Shot" on History...

I love guns and shooting. I have a semi-auto S&W pistol named "Bo" and a bolt-action Mosin called "Svetlana". Just got me a new shotgun (can't wait to take her out to the range!) I'm often looking at auctions to buy classic firearms (been looking for a good deal on a Winchester 1894 lever action for a while now).

To me guns are like potato chips - can't have just one! :D

What can I say? Some people knit, others paint... I shoot! :) I've even gotten folks from work and elsewhere interested and I take 'em out to the range as well! Basic gun safety and 'how to shoot a gun' etc. It's a nice (if expensive!) hobby.

I love motorcycles. Especially the Triumphs or the older BMWs. Not a crotch-rocket fan! But I won't buy one till I buy a house with a garage.

I joke a lot - about myself, other people, life in general, work... you name it! :) Life's too short to be serious all the time. Papa once told me "as long as you can laugh, you're not finished".

Pranks arranged upon request - please inquire within :p

I drive standard (i.e. "stick shift") transmission. I wear a hat (not a ball cap. A fedora) when outdoors. I wear three piece suits. And I own a pocket watch...

That ought to do for now...

Roy,

What can I say. I also have a weird fixation on guns. It's rather odd since the biggest part of me loves the arts..see former post...ballet, theater blah blat...BUT, I have been facinated by handguns for years. My son in law is a green beret and is an expert shot he has taken me to the range every time I am out in Wa with them. He has a large collection and is very well schooled in safety, my daughter was also in military and an expert shot as well. I am moving to Washington soon I hope and will finally have a semi automatic to call my own...;)

I have been a nurse for about 15 years. I am a newlywed (not quite 1 year). I have a daughter who is 23, a son 18- two step-kids, 23 and 20. I have the most adorable 3 year old granddaughter!

I live on a small farm and raise chickens, we also have horses and cats and a dog! I live a very simple life now. It actually can be alot of hard work, but it is such a nice change from what i call "my old life"!!

I dont watch tv (except for Judge Judy)!! I own a hotrod and love to go to car shows and race it!! I am also into crocheting, and canning things from my garden! Nursing is actually a very small part of who I am!

In the fall, we cut wood for heat, in the winter we stay warm and do alot of ice fishing! spring is planting, summer is just alot of fun with the car!!
