I am stumped over the nursing diagnoses...you know when you study and study something, and it just won't....uhhh....."click"?!
Last big test we had, I did good, except for the nursing diagnosis part. The instructor gave us 4 diagnoses to choose from, and for us to choose the "best" one. Well, I narrowed them down to two of them to pick from, and they both looked correct to me. I know that the diagnosis r/t to the etiology is suppose to be client centered, (not centering on the nursing prob, right?), & is suppose to be clear, and is suppose to be short and presice. But what else do I look for?? Anyone have any suggestions?? TIA!!

I'm a little confused...Were you suppose to pick the best diagnosis for a particular patient or were you just picking the best worded diagnosis?
Best worded (w/different patient probs)....prob was, there were always 2 that looked soooo good to me. What do the instructor's want you to look for?

I dont know if this will help but our teacher said that the best answer in one related to the ABC's (airway breathing, circulation).then Maslows Hierarchy of needs..I dont know if this will help..but good luck
Yes, this is the way I always solve these sort of questions. Can usually eliminate your psycho-social diagnoses from the very beginning then move to your ABC's.
As for wording...who knows what your instuctor wants! This is my biggest problem with nursing diagnosis. Way too much time spent worrying about semantics. I mean if you can identify what's wrong with the patient and determine what you're going to do for them, then who cares if you're able to come up with the most beautifully worded nursing diagnosis!!!!
Graduation can't get here soon enough...
Good luck with your classes! :)

Focus on your ABC's first! After that I am lost....I am still trying to figure these things out myself... uck!!! I bought a care plan book to help me with interventions and rationales (my biggest weakness!)
