Is age 40 too late to start studying to become a nurse?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

No way! I got my LPN when I was 40 and I haven't ever been the oldest one in my class.

I don't think so. I have an unusally a number of 35+ peers. One in my clinical group was a 60yo gandmother. I dont think it is ever too late.

If it is what you want, then go for it.

good luck

I am going to school to be an RN. I am in a two year program; I have 8 months left of school. I will be 51 close to 52 when I graduate from nursing school. You are not too old for nursing school. I wish you the best in your journey.

You're never too old to learn new things. We've had a number of folks in their 50s enter our nursing program.

One person I know worked as a social worker with the incarcerated, and loved working with that population. She entered an ABSN program at age 58. She felt that she had at least another decade to give back to society, and wanted to work with the correctional system in a different aspect.
