I have no idea what a "minim" is... having said that:

A. You want to give 10mccg. Stock strength is 50mcg/cc. So you need 10/50 = 0.2cc.

16 minim/cc x 0.2cc = 3.2 minims

B. You want to give 4mg. Stock strength is 20mg/cc. 4/20 = 0.2cc.

0.2 x 16 = 3.2 minims.

C. You want to give 100mg. Stock strength is 1000mg (1g) in 10cc which is 100mg/cc. So you want to give 1cc or 16 minims.

It tells you right off the bat that there are 16 minims to 1 cc. Your answer is 0.2cc/10mcg, which would mean, by cross multiplication..

16 minims x minims

-------- = ------- x = 3.2 minims

1 ml 0.2ml

Try cross multiplication on problems like this to save you a headache. Hope this helps

There is no T before the "ations."

Jo, thanks for pointing out my grammatical error, it was a simple mistake! Next time help me with the question at hand :-)

This website helped me brush up on my calculations

http://www.nursesaregreat.com/articles/drugcal.htm

I tried to show you how I calculated it but somehow my post was messed up so I deleted it! ugh!!

So, yes, try the website. You were right on but messed up the minims conversion. And always look to see if it makes sense once you're done.

If 1cc = 16 minims, it doesn't make sense that only 0.2cc would be 32 minims right?! You'll get it. Keep practicing!

Thou art asking for the help of the Gods of Allnurses, OP!!!!!!! Please and thanks are advised.

-had to do it, watched Jason and the Argonauts last nite :lol2: anybody old enough to have watched that some Saturday afternoon on TV when you were a kid?

Minims?

Minims are obsolete and on the "do not use" list.

Current textbooks (I teach dosage calculation, among other things) don't even teach apothecary system, other than to mention it's existence.

I just don't see the point in having a student calculate minims.

That's okay - you can still find grains on some brands of aspirin!

And phenobarbital too....weird.

Oh shoot, I read the OP wrong and thought it said 32 minims to 1 cc. Sorry! Have updated my post with correct answers.
