11 nursing books-Help with organizing work area

I am going to orientation tomorrow and after orientation I get to go purchase all of my books. So I am looking around and thinking where am I possibly going to keep all these books. I do not have a bookcase, I had a computer room which was converted into my oldest's sons bedroom so my two boys did not have to share a room anymore. So I have my laptop and a small corner desk in the corner of my living room which I love it there, but there is not much space on my desk for all these books. I just wanted any input on how anyone else has organized their work area with little space. Did you keep all your books like in a crate and pull out as needed???? Any idea's, cuz I am puzzled. I do like to be organized and have all my stuff right where I will be sitting, I know i can't keep them all in my bag:uhoh3: Well thanks everyone!!!

I had the same problem--my study area was my son's room and now he is back home from college before leaving for the Air Force in January:uhoh21: My study area will now be the dining room, so I just set up a bookshelf there. It may not be a decorator's dream, but it makes me feel organized. I did have all my books in my bedroom, but I decided I wouldn't want to have to look at them as I was going to sleep! Good luck!

I had the same problem. I installed two shelves above my desk to hold all of my books. They are pretty heavy duty though. I got them at Home Depot. It does help to have all of my things in one space.

you will never be using all 11 books at one time. I bought a plastic "milk" crate from Wal- Mart to hold the books I am using at one time. Usually about 4. I set in on the floor beside my desk. The others I put in my basement on a cheap metal shelving thingy - also purchased at Walmart

In one of the stickies for supplies that are most needed for nursing school I read one of the best organizational ideas ever. I'm sure it would help with small space issues as well.

Take all of your 11 books to Kinko's, have them unbound and have holes drilled into them so they can be put in a binder. Keep each unbound book in it's own binder but (and here's the smart part) take out only the chapter or the pages you need for studying and put them into the binder you take to school with you and you use for studying at home.

The other books (binders) can be put into milk crates, an accessible closet, under the bed, or some other place out of the way but easy to retrieve and put chapters back into. AND...it'll save your back b/c you won't be lugging all those books w/ you to school, only the chapters you'll be using for that week.

I can't wait to do it with my books this semester. I wish I'd known about it all those years I biked to school with a 25 pound book bag.

OH, and mounting heavy duty shelves above your workstation for extra storage. You can always pain them to match the decor.

Hi, brandyl123! Your post made me laugh. I have very little space. What I have are piles of books. I have a pile of books by the computer that I use for reference in answering student's questions. I have a pile of books by my bed that are for whatever I happen to be reading at the time. There are usually a couple of books in the bed with me off to the side. Eventually, I have a "read" pile that I no longer need anymore that gets put into a box and taken over to my storage locker. I have geriatric cats so smaller piles of books have become stepstools for them so they don't have to jump up onto the bed or chairs. I don't care what visitors think either. There isn't dirt and dust bunnies clinging to them. If they don't like visiting my place they can go visit somewhere else. Some years ago we visited one of our Physiology professor's homes and you should have seen his place. Books piled everywhere and on every thing including the floor!

DH went to walmart yesterday and bought me a $30 bookcake (big one) that was a snap to put together--it just unfolds? Anyway, I am putting all my nursing stuff on there--folders, books, etc. It is tucked in a corner of our guest room. And guess what, it is FULL! AG! I also have a filing system going with a filing box I got cheap.

Well, maybe not eleven, but right now I am starting my studying for med surg 1 and I have 7 books out--all with req reading or help w/ req reading (med/surg text, med dictionary, lab/test ref, pharm note pre-printed cards, PDR, funds book, concept mapping book). Yippee.:uhoh3: :uhoh3:

That is a good idea.

The idea about getting the books debind and drilled holes in them is a good idea as well.

We live in an apartment and both me and dh are ft student and we have two girls that we homeschool as well so talk about books all over the place!!
