GOP releases healthcare plan; actual plan not included :lol2:

Source: Salon

Remember the House Republicans' alternative budget plan where the only numbers were the page numbers? Well, they've done it again!

House Republicans presented a four-page outline of their health care reform plan Wednesday but said they didn't know yet how much it would cost, how they would pay for it and how many of the nearly 50 million Americans without insurance would be covered by it.
You can read the proposal here (pdf file).

Stephen Colbert skewers Faux News/conservative outrage over the ABC health care special, and the GOP "plan." The part about the GOP "plan" starts at about 2:37 in the clip. :roll :lol2:

I :heartbeat Stephen Colbert.

And thanks, GCTMT for reposting the link to the You Tube clip. Though, from the title, I half expected to see Newt Gingrich dressed as Dr. Frank N. Furter. devil-smiley-045.gif

RNC Chairman Michael Steele says health care reform is "easy!" All we have to do is "figure out who" doesn't have access to health care, "and give them access!" Just, "do the deal!" :smackingf Really, why didn't anyone think to just send him to wave his magic Republican wand (Hawthorn, 10", Limbaugh hair) at the health insurance companies to give everyone access!
STEELE: So if it's a cost problem, it's easy: Get the people in a room who have the most and the most direct impact on cost, and do the deal.
Do the deal. It's not that complicated.

My goodness golly. Why didn't we think of that?

:yeah::chuckle That was entertaining. Let's watch it again, I'll bring the pop-corn!

Has anyone suggested to all of these congressional fearmongerers, that MAYBE THEY SHOULD JUST PUT ALL AMERICANS ON THE HEALTH CARE POLICY THAT THEY ENJOY- YOU KNOW, THE CADILLAC OF HEALTHCARE!

Why can't they do that? Or are the American people NOT GOOD enough for the SAME HEALTHCARE THAT WE THE PEOPLE PROVIDE TO THEM FROM OUR TAXDOLLARS!!

Do any of them get turned down because of pre existing conditions?

America's Health Plan-Demic

The House Republicans' health care reform plan is practical in that it's practically three pages long and has no numbers.

Interview with Dr. Howard Dean

Colbert: How many people don't have health care?

Dr. Dean: About 50 million...

Colbert: But if we don't give them health care, won't that number go down very quickly?

Seriously that 47 million statistic is overblown and misleading.

8.3 million make $50-75K per year and 8.7 million make >$75K per year. These people can afford insurance but chose not to buy insurance. They are willfully uninsured- doesnt count.

10+ million are not US citizens. They also dont count

Recap- we are now down to 20 million unisured

Then if you take into account those only temporarily without insurance (the report included anyone, who even temporarily did not have coverage) you drop that 20 million much lower. 47 million is a lie flat and simple.

Similarly, if we took all those who were unemployed at some time in the past year we would not have our current unemployment rate of 8-9% we would have nearly double that. Aren't statistics great

On a different note the plan the republicans came out with was laughable at best. What a pathetic excuse for a plan!

So the excessive gov. spending is all the Republicans fault. Have you checked who's the CNC now and his track record so far? Or do you just not care? Do you believe BHO will take care of you "everybody" better than you can take care of yourself? Lay off CNN..

if we can find money to kill people, and we do, because we've been at war for 8 years now, then we can find the money to help people and have health care for those who need it.

the excessive government spending didn't just up and start on jan 20, 2009.

Your right, the debt tripled. Troops weren't withdrawn, the effort in Afghanistan was escalated. Bleeding hearts and reacting to healthcare with emotional knee jerk responses is exactly what the gov. wants. So you must be set pretty much with your career. You must not be concerned that future RN's could be facing a salary cap, or just less pay aside from already being overworked. Or, there just won't be the jobs there for them. I could go on all day but, you seem to be emotional when it comes to the self inflicted misfortunes of others. How could anyone possibly convince you that Capitalism is "being not perfect" but, the best thing for hard working Americans and always has been. Maybe you need a catch frase, "yes you can, SAY NO TO SOCIALISM."

self inflicted misfortunes?

nice.

so if you don't have insurance, it's you're fault, and you should suffer.

it's not socialism. it's treating everyone as human beings--not just those who can afford it.

last time i checked, the nurses on this board who live in UHC countries do not make minimum wage or have salary caps. fearmongering doesn't work with me.

You are only hearing what these people want you to know. Having lots of European friends most wont admit there system is wrong. Most don't know any better. Thats what seperates Americans from these countries and people. You are too emotionally involved with the misfortunes of others, this will lead you to make irrational decisions based on liberal rhetoric that is in fact nothing but pure socialism. You need to lay off CNN, stop believing everything the CNC says and let Capitalism continue to prosper. Making hard working Americans suffer for a handfull of people who have CHOSEN not to get health insurance is being very selfish and ultimately shows a high level of feelgoodism. Please go back and read the Constitution of the United States of America.

i am a hard working american who just went without health insurance and paid for COBRA for four months because pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition.

the misfortune is not only of others. just because i am a nurse does not mean i am exempt.

a handful is a gross understatement.

ignorance must truly be bliss.

Yes, I have had to pay COBRA before as well, still no excuse. You attempt to rationalize Universal Healthcare with a COBRA statement is in no way a reason to do away with our current system. So the four months absolutely did you in? You did not return to work? Your observation has nothing to do with the bigger picture. Ignorance is truely ignorance. Emotional ramblings about a subject in which you know nothing about and only have a reference to your own COBRA stent does not "even hardly" make you a scholar of Universal Healthcare. Taking away from hardworking "legal" Americans b/c you think that you have been done wrong b/c you paid 4 months of Cobra is well, selfish.

You say that it' selfish to take "away from hardworking "legal" Americans" because they are interested in Universal Healthcare. I don't think that's the case at all, I think proponents of UHC want it because they think it will control costs, provide a more equal system and be better for the country all together. I wouldn't assume that all the people who want Universal Health Care in this country are all "bleeding hearts" any more than I would assume that people who support the 2nd amendment are all card carrying members of the NRA. You say that you have lots of European friends and they "won't admit there system is wrong". Perhaps it's because, they don't believe it be "wrong".

For the record, the health care reforms being discussed in Washington are not "socialist". The details are still forthcoming but no one has seriously discussed pushing the private sector out of business.

And Capiltalism does prosper, even after GM's bankruptcy the private sector still holds 99.79% of corporate and business assets. We shouldn't run for the hills just yet. :lol2:
