U.S.A. Illinois

Did any prenursing students receive acceptance letters from any of Chicago City Colleges yet? I have not receive mine and just trying to get an idea.

Thanks

I'm happy for you...congrats. For the people who got in, what was your ranking score (class credits multiplied by grade) all added up....without the 5 points for orientation? I'd like to know what the lowest score was to get in...but I wasn't able to get the info. Tx.

Bila, may ranking score was 85 ( I did not attend the orientation) it was based on these classes I have already taken and the is according to their points table: Chem 121=B=12points, Bio 121=A=20 points,Math 118=C=8points, Eng 101=B=9points, Bio 226=C=8points, Bio 227=A=16points, and Micro 233=B=12points. :):yeah:

:confused:what happened to the rest of the applicants?

:yeah: I got my acceptance letter for Truman today!!!! I applied last year and did not get in..so this feels very good. It is for sure about the classes. Last year when I applied I had a perfect GPA, but had not yet taken Bio 226. That is what I was told was the problem, however I was also told by someone in the department that it still did not make sense, since I had such a high GPA. Most applicants who get in have done A & P 226. Anyway since then I completed A&P 226 last summer and am finishing 227 right now. I take Micro this summer. And I already have English 101 done from college.

I was in OH's nursing program last fall but was forced to drop out, (despite my high GPA). I take care of my mother full time and I missed two Clinicals because she was sick and was stressed out all the time. My teachers fought hard for me, but the Director said it was impossible for me to make up the clinical hours. They told me to try get more help at home, which I have not been able to do. It is hard when you are not poor enough to get help from the state, and not well off enough to pay for a caregiver. But I will make sure that I have somebody on the day I have clinical. You can not miss those hours.

I applied to Truman and Olive Harvey so I need to decide. I have yet to hear from Olive Harvey, but I think I will be accepted. I know Truman is the higher ranked school and accreditted, but OH is much closer to my home and I have made some good connections there. The program is grueling no matter where you are, and being close to home makes it easier to check in on my mom and still go back to campus for lab hours and working on group projects. I actually thought I had made up my mind, before I got this letter from Truman. Now I am am back on the fence.

Whatever...I am happy I got in regardless.

If you don't get in this year, be patient, and get those Bio classes out of the way. You don't want to be bothered with all the Biology while you are in the program. It will make it much easier to handle to the work load. Take it from someone who tried. Between my mom, Biology and Nursing I got my but kicked.:crying2: So in retrospect, I think it is worth waiting the extra year and completing as many classes as possible. I feel much better equipped to tackle the program.

good luck to all and have a great day!

I GOT IN!!!!!

Oh my gosh... I AM SO HAPPY!!!!

I had to go talk to the dean the nursing secretary is SO rude it is a shame!

Wow I am so happy=)

I did not get a letter for some reason.

Ruby can you mail the letter to me? what exactly does it say I'm curious.

they are sending me one ASAP!!=)

:yeah:Congratulations!!! I am so happy for all of you:up: Xoloveinautum, I will definitely mail you my letter but I will need your address and I am not sure you want to give it to the public posting, but please let me know:).

The letter is two pages long but the first paragraph reads like this:"congratulations! It is my pleasure to inform you that your application for admission into the Truman College Nursing Program, beginning in Fall 2010 semester has been accepted. Your academic preparation has prepared you with the high caliber qualifications necessary for success in our Nursing program."

And then, they ask you to take important steps to complete the admission: "Enclosed please find an "Intent to Participate" form. It must be returned to the Nursing Department by May 1, 2010, otherwise this seat will be offered to another applicant".

First, you have to Accept/Decline in the enclosed form

second, select your preference day/or evening/weekend on the form(day students have classes on Monday and Wednesday mornings, with hospital clinical on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7am-1pm or 2pm-8pm)subject to change.

Evenings/Weekend have Mon and Wed evenings hospital clinical on Fri and Sat/Sun (7am-1pm or 2pm-8pm) locations not guaranteed.

Third, the form registers you to required orientation session. It is a four hour session about the nursing program. It will include curriculum, policies and procedures, resources available to you, medical and criminal background and CPR reqs and registration for the Fall 2010 courses.

And it gives you the options for orientation dates:

Day Students: Wed June 2nd, 9 AM-12:30pm, Novar Hall

Evening students: Wed June 2nd 4-7:30PM, Novar Hall

(students will be enrolled for lecture and clinicals on first-come, first served basis.

"You need to bring your Truman ID and proof of residency(IL drivers license, IL state ID, etc) to the orientation session"

Tuition and fees for Fall 2010:Nursing 101 for Chicago residents $609 tuition, $840 course fees, and $50 registration. In addition books, uniforms, and other program participation like immunizations, blood tests, CPR, and criminal background check.

You also need to bring your financial Aid award letter to the orientation session.

And finally, recommending you to take Bio 226 and English 101 if you have not yet taken them because they are required for Nursing 101. Also if you already taken these courses, than consider Pharmacology 103, and/or Bio 120 Medical terminology during the summer."You will need to complete them at some point during your first year in the Nursing program" (I did not know we have to take Pharmacology 103 or medical terminology did you?)

"I look forward to seeing you at orientation. Once again, congratulations!"

They did not tell you why you did not get a letter? How did you find out you were accepted? I am very happy for you and I hope this helps:yeah:

thanks so much! They said they were going to mail me a letter I was curious about those dates though so thanks for posting!

I really don't know why I did not get a letter...? Frustrating but at least I know I am accepted!=) I went to talk to the dean since the rude secretary could not assist me.

Do you have financial aid? Im wondering what the financial aid award letter means? I know I Get FAFSA but i don't know if that's what it means

Yes it is the FAFSA and where it shows the EFC number it is called the SAR (student Assitant Report I think) that the one they are talking about.

Oh okay

So i think that means we have to do FAFSA eariler than usual I was just not sure why they were calling it an award letter

Thanks though=)

I got accepted to Truman. I don't remember exactly what my score was but I got very close to the maximum. I had already finished and gotten A's in all of the science and gen ed requirements, so the only points I didn't get were for CNA, EMT etc.

I got accepted to Truman.

Congratulations anna banana!!!:)

I still did not get my letter. I know I did get in but I am afraid i am not going to get into the day class which I need to take.:\
