We look forward to Nurses Week, although, most of us have to admit that many of the gifts we receive, if any, are nothing to write home about. But occasionally, there is that gift that knocks us off our feet. Have you ever received a really fantastic gift for Nurses Week?
I used to work at a very small hospital, we probably had 150 nurses altogether. I distributed sheets of paper with everyones name and asked all the nurses to write a good quality, or a positive experience with each nurse. Once I got all the responses back, I had wonderful stories and ideas to compliment everyone. I wrote a thankyou care to every nurse on staff (with the blessing of management) and that was part of our nurses week celebration.
I think every idea has someone to criticize it, and there were two people out of the staff that didn't like something on their card. One was an in joke amongst their peers that sounded bad, but the person that wrote it assured me the recipient would understand. Another was reference to someone's jolly laugh- and she was not happy about that. Can't please every one, but I'd be a bit more careful if I did it again.

No, my family doesn't even notice Nurse's Day or week. But last year, my employer changed it to "Hospital Week" and cut our benefits. I can't wait to see what they do this year.
