Positive UDS

Nurses Recovery

Published

I tested positive for alcohol. Had a phone conversation with my case manager which was extremely negative. I was trying to be adult about it and own up to my mistake. I was met with her berating on my "lack of remorse". I simply said I could scream and cry and ask for forgiveness or just take responsibility, deal with the consequences and try to move passed it. She seemed very angry. I said I can't undo it, asked her if there was anything I needed to do. She said no, they will decide and let me know by the end of the week.

I suppose my question is, Is it the end for me? In Indiana is that it?

So, it's been over 2 weeks since I was contacted about a positive test (I was told I would be contacted again with a "decision" on my case). I've been tested again since, results were negative. I guess I'm curious if I should follow up or just leave it be. Thoughts?

I would wait & see what happens. I think hasssling your case worker might make her upset & aggregated. I hope all goes well for you. Keep up posted. Praying that everything will turn out ok & she will give you a slap on the wrist.

I have been told to have a pEth test. Which is probably going to sink me since I drank after my last negative.

I hate to ask the obvious, but why would you drink? I share from experience, even the most savvy individual will eventually be caught. If you don't think you have a problem that is A OK by me. But, these programs are trying to catch you. The ONLY way to get out of them and move on with your life is to abstain. I wish you luck!

Definitely not smart I know. Maybe that decision should disqualify me as a nurse.

This is absolutely and undeniably true. The ONLY reason I don't drink is fear of getting caught. I truly believe that if you drink you will get caught eventually. Do I have a drinking problem??? It depends on whose opinion you listen to I suppose. Frankly, I could care less about those opinions and almost certainly will drink again after monitoring. Do you have a drinking problem? That's your business and how you deal with it is your business also AFTER monitoring. Unfortunately the only way out of this program is to vigorously play an idiotic game of "Simon Says" for years. Do yourself a favor and decide is all the BS is really worth it to you. If not walk away. If so be prepared to deal with the fallout from this which will stink and to fully comply with any new terms are placed in front of you. Otherwise you are needlessly torturing yourself

NOPE!!!! Nurses are human and we make mistakes. You made one and (I'm sure) can stay a nurse if you are willing to deal with the ramifications of getting caught

I agree with spanked. One thing I would say is if you going to keep drinking why keep wasting your money to these ppl who sole purpose is to catch people and extend their programs so they can make more money. If you want to stay in the program you have to stop drinking now. You see they going to throw a peth test on you and expect more of those to be thrown at you. Just ask people on this board one person had them like a week apart. I don't know if you can take a break from the program and come back. But all you doing now if you going to keep drinking is throwing your money away and making these people richer. Best believe when I'm finish with this I'm going to have a drink even though I don't drink. I'm not having a drink while I'm in this program because giving these people even a cent more than what I have to is not going to happen. I hope you the best and keep us updated.

I agree with Spanked. No reason to right yourself off because of this. You will be a nervous wreck if you try and 'beat' the program. As I said before, I speak of this from experience. It's not worth the few hours of relaxation you may receive from a drink. Eventually they will catch you and then you may have to start all over.

So true. I quit for a while because I was NOT going to stop until I was ready. It was wasting their time and my money. But, I played 'beat' the program for a while and eventually, like I said, they caught me. The energy and effort it takes to try and stay one step ahead is NOT worth it. And it doesn't work.

Okay, I need advice. My CM said she wanted to talk to me about the pEth test and didn't tell me to schedule it. I've tried her twice, the second time saying if she wanted to just email me the instructions that would be fine. But I haven't heard back. This is post 24 hours from her initial message. What should I do? I don't want her to think I'm dodging her and delaying the test (not sure it's going to matter).
