I'm finally working, no really this time

Nurses Recovery

Published

So, today was my 3rd day at a nursing home. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to have gotten a job. Staff is great. Patients are sick sick sick. We are a SNF facility (never done this and thought with ER/ICU background it would be a breeze.... boy was I wrong... I will never judge nursing home nurses again!).. I have a ward with 22 patients, 7 on peg, 8 on trach's, several bi-pap... and I'm in charge. I've been there 3 days and still havent assessed the more stable patients... it's unsettling.. It's overwhelming and I cried mid shift today as we had a mock state survey by corporate that was unannounced (we were just bought out and acquired this weeek and they decided to grace us with their presence). My ADON has something with the board (they told me that he is "in my boat" and he became ADON after only 11 months at the company WITH STIPS). Long story short, don't give up. APPLY APPLY APPLY.

YAY ME! It's also a pay cut from what I am used to but I couldn't care less. I'd mop the floor if they asked me too. 12 months and this is all over and disappears from my license and I can find a nice cushy job. Do the crime, pay the time...

Congratulations!!!!!!

I am so very happy for you!!! it's so very hard to go through all that we do, then to have such a God-awful time finding a job!! congrats!! (you never gave up!!) :whistling:

Congrats!! However, are you sure it will disappear from your license? In many states it stays there as history and can be easily accessed by prospective employers and others browsing the BON websites......Even tho I am now in a different stated with a clear license in this state, the discipline still shows up as past history....

Congrats !!!!! I sure wish I was that lucky right now. I have been out of work for 2 months and if I don't have a job by the 1st then I have no place to live. I do have a reprimand with stips on my license and NO ONE is willing to take a chance on me. My stips arent that bad but every nursing home I have applied at says I would be the only RN on duty and my stips say I have to have another RN with me. I am at my wits end and even applied for jobs that aren't nursing but then I'm told that I am over qualified. I don't know what to do next. Prayer (I hate to say this) has gotten me no where. I dont wanna be homeless !!!!!!!! Any suggestions would be of great value to me at this time.

As far as jobs outside of nursing- I was asked at every interview "why are you applying to this job if you are a nurse?" and I always answered the same way "I thought back to what jobs I enjoyed prior to nursing, your company has many similar attributes, and nursing is all about customer service and heavy lifting!" worked every time :)

YAY YOU!

Good attitude.

MDS: The order and my monitor have said it is removed from the website. In Texas it only shows current disciplinary action. However, if the employer were to call the board and ask then they would have to tell them. Are there any other nurses in Texas who have completed the program that can confirm? Now Im freaking out!

Tracy: I know exactly how you feel. I'm so sorry for your situation. Where do you live? I applied at all the rural areas and tried to stay away from the jobs close... I recommend the same to you. It took me six months of hard searching and countless humiliating interviews before I finally landed something. It just takes time. I hate to say be patient and have hope but if you dont you may end up wallowing in self pity like I did and it wasnt pretty. You can do this girl!

My board order will be GONE when I complete mine, it will not show up anywhere. As long as I do what I'm told for the next 2.5 years! Its a small price to pay for the huge crime I committed if you ask me.

Oh, and I forgot to mention to use Craigslist. I got this job through it and my last job as a nurse paralegal.

Thanks lady! I thought so too! :-))))
