You'll always be able to find someone who hates their job. You'll also always be able to find someone who loves theirs. Guess who talks about it the most? (Hint: read Yelp reviews and see how many places are reviewed favorably as opposed to negatively!)
People who dislike their jobs will always be more vocal about it than those who enjoy their work. Fwiw, I love being a nurse.
One thing to keep in mind is that people are much more likely to vent about bad things than they are to praise the good. Yes, nurses have been finding themselves expected to do more with less, seeing no to little raises as the years go by, management that expects more and doesn't recognize a job well done, and as for bullying, well, that's a thread unto itself. However, the job does have its good parts. Nursing is no different than any career field out there- it has its pros and its cons. Do I love my job every single day? Absolutely not. Take, for example, the trauma I dealt with recently. Working in surgery, the point is to make patients better. Unfortunately for this patient, he did not make it out of the OR. It can take a mental toll, and talking it out helps. That need doesn't exist on those days where everything goes as expected, everyone makes it out of the OR, eventually gets discharged, and goes on with their life, better than before they had the surgery.
There is negativity in absolutely every profession on earth. I've worked in retail, pharmacy, insurance, and mortgage industries. There are people who will always hate their job. There are unhappy people everywhere. It's all in your attitude and how you approach it.
This is basically the same thing I was going to say. People vent online. You'll see a similar theme here. But ultimately, we're in this profession for the long haul, most of us. Some love it, some don't, most are somewhere in the middle.
I am on a Starbucks page for current and prior partners, and you'll see the same thing there- people post about things they hate about the job, but occasionally a post will draw out the love.
With ANY job, there are things you love and things you hate. I have yet to meet a single person who loves every single aspect of their job.
Don't let it get to you.
People that are happy don't need to talk about it as much as people that are unahppy.
I, for one, love, love, love being a nurse. It's an amazing profession. I am not overworked or underappreciated in any way. I do have bad moments but they are outnumbered by the good and incredibly ones. Don't worry.
I'm a nurse who LOVES her job! I get cookies, flowers, and cards from my patients. Did I mention cookies? One even surprised me with a Pandora bracelet. There are good days and bad days like any job, but I wouldn't do anything else.
As far as pay, I just bought a two-story house (and I'm single), so I'm good in that department. Of course, everybody wants to make more but my employer has "clinical ladders" and I have the opportunity to continue climbing it which results in a pay increase!

I just read something in Facebook.. Someone post a rant about how much they hate their job as a nurse. And then a BUNCH of people commented & admitted that they hated their jobs as well. They talked about being overworked, underpaid, underappreciated, bullied..
Im scared!!
