Dear Momolo,

I joined Nurses4America last year and my membership expired without me getting any use of what I paid them for, mother diagnosed with cancer so has been a busy time... I called them up last week and they said I would have to pay the £400 again, it seems so crap that they won't extend etc... I am so glad I found your review! How do I go about doing it myself, I haven't got a clue how or where to start! Thank you so much, I would be moving to California and also, what is the retrogression situation? Thanks a million,

Kelly

Retrogression basically means demand for immigrant visas higher than visas allocated. Because demand is higher from certain countries their allocation takes longer to be processed. For example someone born in India has to wait at the moment over 10 years for their PD to become current and an interview allocated. California will not accept applications without a US SSN and you can't get that without work or immigrant visa allowing you to live and work in the US or you have immigrant visa via family. CA are also very strict in what they accept so your transcripts need to show clinical and theory done together at the same time. Plenty of threads in the Nurse Registration forum discussing this

Hi, I am interested in working in the US and have conducted some research on the process. It seems the NCLEX is one of the main pre-requisites and at the moment I can only find the NCLEX training available on Nurses 4 America. I rang them today and asked a load of questions. After similar experiences of other agencies, I smell the same bait - pressure to sign up during phone call and pay the stipulated fee with a huge discount if you do it immediately. After conducting reviews on some of these agencies, it is indicative that there are a waste of time & money as they claim you would have a hard time doing it yourself.

So, my question is if we do not choose to go through these companies who are out to make money out of you, then how would you do the application process to the US yourself? Where can I find register to take the NCLEX online training? For those who have managed to move to the US from the UK to work as nurses, please advise. Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

All you need to do is look at the state requirements of the state you wish to live and work in for a Foreign trained nurse. Once you meet requirements you can then sit NCLEX. We have a NCLEX forum under the student tab. You can easily do your study yourself and do not need to sign up to any agencies.

The hardest thing is to find a employer willing to wait the 1-12 years (depending on where you was born) to get a immigrant visa that allows you to live and work in the US. Suggest check out the EB3 category on the US visa bulletin for the most up to date month and that will give you an idea on how long the process is taking once your employer has filed your immigrant application. The process to with the state BON takes approx 4-8 months before eligibility to sit NCLEX comes through and that is as long as your transcripts meet requirements then the process starts on finding an employer.

Did you train in the UK and if you did how long ago did you train?

Retrogression is pretty much gone. Nurses4America helped us pass NCLEX and get us a job. I am now working in America. I joined in Dec 13

Incorrect. A lot will depend on where you was born and Which eb category you applied in. Current processing times for someone from the Philippines in EB3 is over 8 years

Gotta love the US immigration system, It is not fair or balanced, too many legal loopholes to jump to the front of the line.

We have nurses in other parts of the USA who claim they can't find work and USCIS keeps giving out work visas to international nurses.

U.S. immigration needs a complete overhaul.

Obama tried to give amnesty to 5 million Illegal Aliens a few month ago, and issue them work permits, but thankfully a Texas Federal Judge put a stop to that.

so, basically what all of you say is that it is almost impossible as a foreigner to start working in the usa. I plan on becoming an anaesthesia nurse, does that help?

My english is quite ok, but what exactly does "retrogression" mean in terms of nursing jobs?

where are you from?

Retrogression means demand for visas outweigh visa allocation for the year. Nurses generally come under EB3 although some if specially skilled and job meets the criteria EB2 and 1 may be an option. But visas are allocated on place of birth so you google search US visa bulletin and check out dates that are current.

i wouldn't go as far as say impossible just hard because you have to find employer willing to wait

Check the nurse anesthesia forum. Generally registered nurse anesthetist is country specific. Are you planning on taking nurse anesthesia training in the US?

hello,

I am a nurse practicing in the UK but have taken my degree in the Philippines. I want to take Nclex but have found the process very confusing. Does anyone have any advice how to start the process? Also which state is best to take it if you are someone from outside the US?
