i too have gone back and read most of your threads. you are very incosistant. you post the same thread with a few variances in several discussion areas. your info does not jive. with the info you give it leads me to believe that you are really not in any type of medical field wether it be CNA or medical administration classes. :confused:

i, in my many years if nursing have never come across a nurse that refused to take care of a pt just because they had an infectious disease. we make not like it, but we do it.

you say that you think all the good nurses are either dead or retired and we are all in it for the money.....

well i am neither dead or retired and neither are all of the good nurses that post on this board. and as for the money, i bet there is alot of us that would like to know were all these nurses that are in it for the money are working. in most of the places that we are working there IS NO MONEY!

i suggest that you run not walk away from the nursing profession before we nurses eat you alive.

I follow universal precautions.

I've taken care of lots of AIDS patients. They are just like you and me but they have a terrible, debilitating disease.

I was nervous to draw their blood. I know I'm doing Univeral Precautions but there's time you come in contact to blood even with universal precautions.

It's a horrifying disease I wish they'd find a cure for!!

Although my preference is towards mother/baby couplet care, I would also say that working with AIDS patients is something that is pulling me more towards nursing. That maybe I can help ease their pain, even if it is only being there for them (i.e. not running from them). I'm sure that in this day and age I will be caring for mom's infected and infants as well. I don't plan to treat a mom with AIDS any different than a mom without.

It sounds like you really work in a terrible facility. HIV/AIDS is a very scary disease, but it should not impact the nurse's care in any way. I suggest you get a better job.
