Nurse the World

Hello people, I would like to find out as much information as possible about nursing all over the world.

I am a nursing student in Western Australia. Just a few months ago I was working in the ER in Sacramento California where I am from. I moved here to WA to go to nursing school since they had no wait list. I should graduate with a bachelors of Nursing in November 2010. My goal thereafter is working in Africa with 'Medecins Sans Frontieres' (Doctors Without Borders), Nepal, Burma and many other places.

Does anyone have connections or experience?

What are the requirements and restrictions if a nurse would like to work in say; Germany or Japan?

Usually if wanting to work with Doctors without borders they require a few years experience. For any country you will have to meet their requirements. If you haven't got a passport from a country within the EU then you may find it hard to find a employer willing to assist with work permit. Regardless of country if English isn't the first language then generally you have to pass their language exams

Hey thanks Donster. I talked with some people from Docs without borders and they were happy to see someone with practical field and ED experience going to nursing school. I just got offered a job in the ED here in Australia too. I'll have worked on an ambulance, for the fire department, in three Emergency departments in two countries and finish nursing school in 2010. I am only 26 and plan on working over in some sweet destinations and some very dangerous ones. Somehow I feel global work/travel wont be a problem. I can't wait to graduate and have more tools to help with.

I would advise you then to work on your language abilities and go from there, so if you're interested in german speaking countries study german and so on. Once you're ready situation might have changed in those countries and you might be able to work there. Right now as a nurse it's practically impossible to get a visa for Germany.

And just to add Germany is complicated, you will need to know exactly where in Germany you want to work.
