Nurse Scrubs for Hallowe'en

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hi everyone! ;)

This year I was thinking of being a nurse for Hallowe'en (a real nurse, scrubs and all, not the sexy skanky kind aha)! I need some help finding sorts of scrubs that I could wear and what sorts of shoes are typically worn on the floor (are running shoes regular?) I thought it would be fun to dress like a nurse would actually look like and see what responses I get. Also to see who would recognize it. I was also thinking of making my costume scary with blood or something, but I'm still working on that part.

Where can I get some nice (but cheap) scrubs for this? Are there cheaper websites to order from? I assumed I couldn't find them second hand because of how much they get used in hospitals etc.

Anything helps!!:D

I dressed up as a surgeon for a Halloween party many years ago. It helped that I actually worked in surgery. I borrowed green scrubs, scrub hat and mask. My girlfriend painted my face like a skeleton (she had a book on Halloween face painting).

Walmart has scrubs but you can find them in second hand stores. Several coworkers I have buy second hand scrubs all the time.

You could always buy unisex Dickies. I think Fashion Seal makes inexpensive ones also. Check thrift shops or clearance at Walmart, a uniform shop, etc. One year my husband and I were "doctor and nurse" and I wore a surgical scrub dress (very retro!) and he wore navy blue scrubs borrowed from one of my friends.

I dress as a nurse every Halloween. I wear the 'old school' traditional uniform (no scrubs), white dress, white hose, white shoes, white cap :) My geri patients love it.

One Halloween my husband dressed up as well as children and we went with my sister-in-law who also dressed up and her children. I had just come home from school (we were required to wear scrubs even for lecture). I was too tired and too miserable to try to figure out last minute what to dress as. I jammed my hands in my pockets and pulled out a face mask (clean) that I had left in their from nursing lab. Ahhh haaaa, I put the clean gloves on, put the mask on my face, threw some ketchup all over the gloves and on the mask and on the scrub top (it was an older top and was getting a bit worn, it was going in the trash anyway) and viola' I was 'dressed'. Got quite a few compliments on it too, go figure.

To CT Pixie - I like the 'old whites' outfit idea. But where did you find white pantyhose? They're becoming difficult to find.

One thing to all - buy an inexpensive wig, totally different color to yours. Blondies go dark; brunettes go blond. And have fun.

FYI -- life is different as a blond!

They aren't relly 'pantyhose', what they are is (hahah) white tights from the chilrens section. Being that I have the same size and weight of an average 12year old, I can go into their section, they always have a range of colors in tights ;) Target, Wal-Mart, any place that sells childrens clothing.

Aren't you the lucky one!

Can't find white anymore. Switched to ivory; they're getting real tough to find, too. Those colors are good to camouflage varicosities & spider veins. Black, charcoal, dark coffee don't do the job as well.

(I like wearing skirts.)

I don't know about 'lucky', its a little difficult to find adult appropriate clothing when you stand as tall as a pre-teen, haha.

The clothing people seem to think if you are thin you are 8 feet tall and if you are short you are also on the heavier side. Can never find anything in the adult section that fits in both length and size.

To CT Pixie - I call myself a "big girl" (just to be polite to myself). Am a shortie tool. But the clothing industry seems to think that we "big girls" are big & tall with it. Sleeves all seem to come down past my fingertips, and I have to order 'petite' length slacks (oxymoronic when you think about it) as otherwise the cuffs will drag the floor.

That's why my white/ivory pantyhose are now difficult to find in the 'big girl' shoppes/catalogs.

But back to the orig thread, do many of y'all 's employers encourage 'dress up' for the holiday? And what do you do (or have seen)?
