Wow, that doesn't sound like a great situation to be in. Have you spoken to the higher ups about it? In my job prior to becoming a nurse that happened all the time. New people would be brought in at a higher pay rate than those of us that had been there for years. Management didn't want to hear anything about it.
Thank you for responding. Well management doesn't care. It's all about saving money...I just don't get how people in those type of positions live with themselves..Why is it ok with cutting someone's pay for an orientation..I have bills, I guess no groceries for me...I feel discriminated against because I was a LPN...I feel violated..I feel like I'm a ticking time bomb because of this..and they wonder why people lose it!
PAY?!?! And why is that okay with anyone? We have paid and paid...and where is that money going? I wish our society was better...better in the sense that we wouldn't always look for ways to take ones money...better in the sense that we cover up one form of discrimination with another. All I want to do is take care of my patients not fund someone's idea of weeding out...because then we have a long way to go because the world needs a lot of weeding out...remember we take care of all patients...we have an obligation to all...not just the ones who come in nice and respectful... Sort of like how they are trying to weed bad nurses out...No one should be subjected to harm but they need a different type of program...like a personality test because it ANGERS me everyday when I hear a nurse speak about a patient in a disrespectful way...these are your seasoned nurses,..shameful acts....but they didn't have to do a nurse residency program to test your skills right out of school...forget the fact that they may not really like people they just did it for the money..Whoosh, had to vent..

I completely hear what you're saying, and I wish I had a good solution for you. Have you considered eventually going into nursing management in order to effect change at that level?
I recently obtained my RN License but I haven't been able to be happy about it yet! I have been a LPN for 10 years. I went back to school as requested by my employer. I had some health issues and I wasn't able to finish before they started this nurse residency program this year. Now as an LPN I was already close to the top of the pay scale. Unfortunately, those that created this program didn't care about the LPNs that made more than what the starting pay is for this program. This is so morally wrong, and such a financial burden, how can they expect anyone to be happy or focused when there worried about paying their bills. Wow, what a promotion. Is this happening everywhere where they cut your pay for a nurse residency program. Especially when you've worked for the same World renowned organization for 10 straight years. What a slap in the face...
When I finished my LVN-ADN bridge I got a residency position in a hospital. They didn't count my LVN experience as nursing experience in terms of salary. I think the entire residency had a flat base pay. I had never worked for this hospital before though, so I didn't expect them to count it. Since you worked for the same hospital, I find it really insulting that they decreased your pay. Does the whole residency have a base pay rate? I wonder about PCT's at the hospital who get their RN, do they start at the same rate as new grads, or a little more because they already worked for that hospital?
I am sorry, it sounds like you got really screwed. I don't know of any helpful advice that I can tell you
If you went to another hospital after the residency (assuming you don't have a contract), maybe you can find someone who will pay you more. I know of non hospital employers who will count LVN/LPN experience for "half" of RN experience. Plus by then you will have RN experience as well. I am so sorry this happened to you, I really wish there was a solution you could find
The fallout from a bad economy and a plethora of nurses....welcome to the dark ages.
I don't think it is the economy any more. When I'm out and about I see people spending money like drunken sailors. Today's kids are the most spoiled generation so far. The elephant in the room that nurses don't address is that reimbursement from the government is decreasing every year. With Obamacare that trend is simply going to continue. People can't get healthcare at WalMart prices without WalMart style wages.
Can you please explain to me how ACA is the problem with reimbursement. I keep seeing that and NO one can give me an answer. ACA has nothing to do with CMS and it is still private insurance that people are purchasing on the exchanges. Sorry but insurance companies have had it too good for far too long. THey make record profits
