"We'll start interviewing at the end of this month" -- yeah, for positions that you've filled already.
"We're not hiring new grads" -- except for the ones you just hired.
"We are sorry but you don't meet our minimum qualifications" -- unlike the other new grads you just hired. Unless "qualifications" means "knowing someone in your system."
Listing openings that don't exist, and not listing the openings that DO exist.
I could go on and on... I don't mind not getting hired. I can live with that. I cannot deal with deceit and duplicity. Don't leave me hanging hoping that I'll get called for an interview later in the month when you KNOW that the positions were already filled.

This is the cry of all the new nurses, i know how you feel. (How can we get experience if we arent hired, & stop lying to us....right). Its a long road traveled with a mighty long way to go. All you can try to do is stay positive.

I am so so sorry. You deserve to be treated better. The day will come when they'll be begging us to take positions. Keep your head up. You don't want to work at a place where they treat people that way anyways. I truly hope you land your dream job somewhere else. They don't deserve you.

Even a not new nurse could resent being treated this way. I prefer basic honesty myself. The nasty, curt, snickering facial expression can go in the can too.

Ive kept records on the local hospitals, the recruiters names, who treated me right and well....who did Not treat me right. A few years from now if the baby boomers all retire and the spots all open up again....I will remember who treated me how.
It's nice to think this way... that one day the hospitals who were nasty to new grads will be punished and those who made room for us will be rewarded. But as others have pointed out it isn't likely.... once positions open at those other hospitals there will be applicants flocking to them too. They're shutting out new grads because they can get away with it.

A MAJOR hospital system in the area held a recruiting event, and I talked several of my out of town classmates to make the trek in to the city because it would be good for the job hunt.
At the RECRUITING event, no one was accepting resumes, living out business cards, talking about jobs that were in the pipeline, etc. Nothing. The HR folks were mingling around telling us to not lose hope and to apply for everything and to not be picky. My question: why hold a RECRUITING event if you're not recruiting???
Also: at my college's career fair, many of the tabling employers said they didn't hire new grads. So why are you at a COLLEGE career fair?

Honestly I think some of these recruiters should be scared for their jobs - you know, if there's no shortage and they're not hiring anybody. (Of course they're experienced enough they'd probably just move on to the next "desk job.")
