online FNP programs

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which programs are the best online program choices for FNP?

What I find interesting is that when you get your diploma- unless you went to Phoenix or Excelsior or Walden- No one will know if it was an on line program or not unless you choose to tell them. If I were to tell you I went to , or Dusquene, or U of Alabama, you would not know if it was On line or in class- unless you were told.

Zenman- I have worked extensively in Africa (though I am done for the moment, and am trying fairly successfully to reintegrate into US society now one month and counting!)- if you need any info, feel free to PM me.

The topic has veered from what the OP originally intended: "Suggestions for an online program".

Please keep on topic for future reference.

I also hope that we as professionals can keep any and all debates civil and without personal attacks.

Thank you.

Sorry Siri, I'll start a new thread. We were just trying to provide MT-FNP with some on-line education.

I've heard some negative things about UOP and Kaplan but have no personal experience with them. They are some 'go getter" hustlers though with getting students. I went with UAB because they are a solid school with a good reputation and the online program tuition is "resident rates" which made me very happy. I think my total fees for a 3 hr course was $773. Some are that much for 1 hr!

I was just curious about a few things. I was looking into the UAB online FNP program and I can't find any information that says you only have to pay resident tuition rates. I was wondering how you knew that the tution was set that way. Also, how do you go about setting up your clinical experiences when you go with an online program. I mean do you just try to find NPs in your area willing to take on a student and do they get paid for helping you with your clinical experience. It seems to me that doing the classroom portion of your masters online makes sense. However, I am really concerned how clinical portion works. How can there be an adequate measurment of how good each clinical experience is? Just because someone might be a good nurse practioner does not mean they would be a good preceptor for a student. Any comments or explanations would be greatly appreciated.

My advisor told me and it was great news! I don't remember there being anything on the website about online rates.

Same as the guys who are doing the traditional method. Go out and hunt. I try to find someone who likes teaching and the role of the NP. I'll probably be using the US Embassy health clinic doctor here as he used to head up a residency program which also included NPs.

You can run into this problem anywhere. The preceptor form/contract outlines what is required of each side and there is followup by the school. I think the most important thing is to find someone who is a good fit for you and is welling to teach and guide you. Some of the preceptors may be looking at you for as a potential hire also. No one gets paid for a preceptorship...at least that I know of. For my residency, I may pick a physician in the states who used to be one of my Zen Shiatsu clients as I know they like me! Or I may pick a US board certified doc in another country or a US educated NP in another country. Lot's of options are available for me.

At the end of the day, we all have to sit for the state exams whether we did it online or within a 'brick and mortar' set up. The real issue would be if online graduates were not being hired. Does anyone know of any online grads being discriminated against?
