Interesting read. Houston's my neck of the woods. I pray that this equates to good news for me once I finish my AGPCNP program next December.

FNP jobs are saturated. Acute NP's are in high demand

Do you have actual proof or is that just anecdotal?

My guess is it also depends on your location. Texas is bigger than most countries. What's happening in El Paso is likely very different than the job market in Houston.

I remember hearing how NPs were going to NM where they enjoy full practice autonomy and enjoy higher wages. texas will be one of the last stares to grant full practice to NPs.

Yeah the outgoing Governor of NM had a big NP recruitment effort. Passed a state law that required the board to grant you a license in 5 business days if you were already licensed in another state once your application was complete.

I never really minded working in Texas because I had great collaborative physicians and worked independently anyway, but I'm not sure I could ever go back to that practice environment again.

I work in a rural clinic with only one physician. We have a great working environment but the company I work for doesn't allow for NP's to have their own panel, so there is some influence that the MD has over me. The good thing though is I have more experience and the MD comes to me everyday asking me my opinion. It'll be nice when Texas comes out of the stone age and passes full practice authority. Unfortunately, not really LOL, my company has given me several incentives that would make it financially dumb for me to leave.
